NEW: Reporter explains what he saw after witnessing the execution of Brad Sigmon by firing squad on Friday. Sigmon was executed in South Carolina by three prison gunmen. The 67-year-old man was convicted of beating his girlfriend's parents to de*th with a baseball bat at their home in 2001. Sigmon opted out of lethal injection and chose the firing squad instead. Associated Press reporter Jeffrey Collins was at the execution and explained what he witnessed. "My heart started pounding a little after Sigmon’s lawyer read his final statement. The hood was put over Sigmon’s head, and an employee opened the black pull shade that shielded where the three prison system volunteer shooters were..." Collins said in the AP.
