Abingdon United, a special mention for you. The tragic loss of some great people that escape grief, pain, depression, trauma, and other reasons through suicide continues to happen at an alarming rate. There isn't a simple fix, but the love, hope, and kindness Abingdon United as individuals and as a football club have shown during this tragic time, is inspirational and they are a credit to our county. It won't have been easy, and we are grateful to them for showing us that there is hope and support, and people do really care when maybe we think they don't. Society has to do more. The government has to do more. There has to be better research and understanding. We are all here to listen and help, but we aren't experts. We need more help so we can make a difference when a fellow human being feels like ending their life is the only option. Very subtle warning signs may be there that we don't pick up on. Improve mental health funding and research around suicide. General mental health issues can be solved with talking therapies and coping strategies. But when things are more serious than that, much more needs to be available to those in that position, and for friends and family to have the necessary information to make sure the authorities do more to save lives of the people we love. So many people in our county are close to ending their lives. This needs to be taken much more seriously. Jack won't be the last. Please help us. On Monday evening alongside OxVox and OUSP, we were given a presentation on the work Oxford United in the Community do, their plans, and how fans can help. We are a club on the up. We sit 9th in the Championship. The first four home league games sold out. 3,500 in a sold out away end yesterday. A new stadium on the horizon. Owners and senior management sharing our vision for a United Oxford. The spirit and togetherness is there for all to see, on and off the pitch. But the most special thing about our club is the difference it makes to so many people across our county. Oxford United in the Community are a charity, and rely on financial help to be able to do their work. It is separate from our football club, but right from the top at Oxford United, the support for OUitC is there. Starting with Sue and Michael, and a team of us working together, we aim to bring our fanbase together across Oxfordshire to raise funds for the incredible work being done. Many don't realise just how much of a difference OUitC are making across different areas within our county, and they can do even more with our support. Over the coming weeks our focus will be to unite the club, fanbase and charity, so more people in Oxfordshire can receive help and support to lead better lives. We will also continue working on bringing fans and the team together to empower Oxford United as we aim to remain a Championship club and build for the future. We support a special football club.
