Told this long ago on twitter. Something fundamentally snapped in Hindus in 2008. It started before 26/11. Something very primordial woke up in shared Hindu consciousness. I request someone please help me find that tweet thread. In current times people won’t like it. But I shared this memory too long ago - as one my very elderly relative told this to me in 2008 - Mohan Bhagwat becoming Sarsanghchalak in 2008 was one of the most important turning points of Indian and Hindu history. That man rejigged entire parivar into one cohesive unit. It was best thing that happened to Hindus in modern history.

धुरंधर 1 और धुरंधर 2 को अगर साथ रखकर देखा जाए, तो ये सिर्फ़ दो फिल्में नहीं लगतीं… ये उस दौर की कहानी लगती हैं, जब हम एक राष्ट्र के रूप में अपने ही भीतर अटके हुए थे… और फिर धीरे-धीरे उस जड़ता को तोड़ना शुरू किया। धुरंधर १ में जो बेचैनी है, वो सिर्फ़ स्क्रीन पर नहीं है… वो उस समय की collective memory है। हर बार जब कुछ होता था, जवाब देने की इच्छा तो होती थी, पर कहीं न कहीं एक अदृश्य दीवार थी… राजनीतिक हिचक, कूटनीतिक डर, और एक आदत… सह लेने की। सिस्टम काम कर रहा था, लोग लड़ रहे थे, लेकिन ऊपर कहीं एक रुक जाओ हमेशा मौजूद था। फिर धीरे-धीरे narrative बदला। मोदी के आने के बाद बदलाव सिर्फ़ policies में नहीं था… वो mindset में था। पहली बार लगा कि state सिर्फ़ react नहीं कर रहा, बल्कि सोच-समझकर initiate भी कर सकता है। सर्जिकल स्ट्राइक हो या बालाकोट… ये सिर्फ़ military actions नहीं थे, ये signals थे। Signals कि अब भारत सिर्फ़ चोट सहने वाला देश नहीं है, बल्कि जवाब देने की क्षमता और इच्छा दोनों रखता है। उस समय भी बहुतों को ये सब overhyped, theatrical या political optics लगा। और जो लोग इस बदलाव को समझ रहे थे, उन्हें मास्टरस्ट्रोकवादी का ताना सुनना पड़ा… लेकिन समय का अपना एक काम होता है… वो चीज़ों को धीरे-धीरे साफ़ करता है। आज जब पीछे मुड़कर देखते हैं, तो समझ आता है कि ये isolated events नहीं थे। ये एक systemic shift था… reactive state से deterrent state बनने का… confusion से clarity की तरफ़… और सबसे ज़रूरी… hesitation से intent की तरफ़… यही शिफ्ट धुरंधर २ में दिखता है। वहाँ हीरो अब इंतज़ार नहीं करता, वो पहल करता है। सिस्टम बिखरा हुआ नहीं लगता, उसमें एक direction है। और सबसे बड़ा बदलाव… अब कहानी survival की नहीं, control वापस लेने की है। लेकिन यहाँ nuance भी ज़रूरी है। सिनेमा हमेशा चीज़ों को simplify करता है…चार घंटे में clear hero, clear villain, clear जीत। जबकि असल दुनिया में हर decision के multiple layers होते हैं… diplomatic cost, escalation risk, global optics। हर बार assertiveness दिखाना आसान नहीं होता, और हर बार वो सही भी नहीं होता। फिर भी, जो core बदलाव है… वो undeniable है। धुरंधर १ से धुरंधर २ का सफर दरअसल एक सवाल का जवाब है… हमारे साथ क्या हो रहा है? से हम इसके साथ क्या करने वाले हैं? और जो लोग उस बीच खड़े थे… जो उस बदलाव को तब महसूस कर रहे थे जब बाकी लोग उसका मज़ाक उड़ा रहे थे… उनके लिए ये सिर्फ़ hindsight clarity नहीं है। ये एक तरह का validation है। अंत में… ये सिर्फ़ फिल्मों की बात नहीं है। ये उस confidence की बात है जो धीरे-धीरे एक राष्ट्र के भीतर बनता है… जब वो अपने ही बनाए हुए डर से बाहर निकलता है… और पहली बार सिर्फ़ survive नहीं… बल्कि shape करना शुरू करता है।

Something very decisively snapped in collective Hindu mind around 2009/10. Was it 26/11 or Sadhvi’s arrest or scams or what, one cannot point a finger. Perhaps all together But Hindu subconscious mind was jolted into action. I thank the gods for that. Aage jo hoga dekha jaayega
