Rarely do you see coaches actively trying to get fired during a season. I think Paul Mainieri’s buyout is around $5M. Lighting money on fire at this point. The hire didn’t work, everyone knows it.

South Carolina Baseball under Paul Mainieri is now 7-34 against power conference competition, 6-28 vs the SEC. The worst this program has been in my lifetime… I was born in late 1976. This despite… -A top 10 baseball operating budget nationally. -A top half in the SEC (at least) NIL budget that was increased significantly year over year. -A mostly new roster and a lineup that was supposed to be the strength. Beyond the wins and losses -Founders Park is way, way empty for the first time ever -The state of SC is loaded with baseball talent and a double digit number of those players are heading to power conference programs the Gamecocks have to compete against. -It’s interesting that some of the pitching has been better and some has been elite and the catcher is calling the pitches this year, the only coaching type change that was made after last season. Baseball folks, is there hope? Is this “just baseball” … seems that either the recruiting coordinator (Terry Rooney) whiffed on double digit players in the portal or they aren’t being coached for success. But you folks that know the game well… what do you think?

Brendan Lawson demolishes a two-run homer off Alex Valentin to give Florida a 6-3 lead.
Lawson took his time running around the bases and threw his bat in Valentin's direction. Valentin wasn't happy, and neither is Paul Mainieri.

@Jacktveltri @GCgameday I don’t know Beau’s splits but he looks way less comfortable on the left side. Think he needs to try full time righty or is being a switch hitter the only thing he has going for him at this point.
