Educators and #kidlit authors. I get it. Nostalgia is a fabulous high. Nostalgia for a racist/sexist/homophobic/ableist book is understandable. We all read trash. Remember and revel in the event, in the feeling, but leave that awful book behind.

It takes a monster to kill children. But to watch monsters kill children again and again and do nothing isn’t just insanity—it’s inhumanity.

During the winter holidays, even some of the most well-meaning and casual conversations in schools—such as those about gifts and meals—can serve to marginalize and alienate students experiencing poverty. Take a thoughtful approach. learningforjustice.org/magazine/rethi…

I loved the symmetry of the beginning and ending of Root Magic. So beautifully written and a great reflection on the connections to family and ancestors. @suehellerjp @EdenRoyce #ppspdspot

@suehellerjp @EdenRoyce I loved the ending! I also was a bit worried in the middle - the Susie reveal was a little much for me. But everything came together so well at the end! #ppspdspot

Finishing "Root Magic" by @EdenRoyce #ppspdspot this week. I was worried about everything coming together, but WOW! this book really came together at the end. Some surprises, some not, but excellent ending!

@suehellerjp The marsh scene in ch 13 was so scary! Really suspenseful and creepy. But I loved how her discovering her power helped connect her to her Gran and other ancestors. #ppspdspot

This book has its creepy points. From the experiences in the marsh and then saving the wolf, I'm anxious to see how the end of this book comes together. #ppspdspot

I’m almost as unsure about the new Sheriff as Mama is. I think he means well, but I understand why Mama is skeptical that things will actually change. Especially bc of the issues our country still has with policing communities of color. #ppspdspot

@suehellerjp I’ve been thinking about Doc a lot. Would love to read his story! Adult or young adult book? Prequel or sequel? I would take any of em! Such a great secondary character. #ppspdspot

Reading Root Magic has me thinking a lot about a book I read over winter break, Magic Lessons, the prequel to Practical Magic. Similar magic, similar themes of acceptance, but of course the European tradition is more familiar to me. So glad I'm reading this now! #ppspdspot
