spent the last 3 weeks (planned 3 hours) experimenting with @maxyugio on a simple tool that turns your handwriting into a font you can use anywhere. best experience-draw directly on mobile. beta mode-handwrite on paper and take a photo. we’re both designers, so this wouldn’t have happened without these incredible tools and libraries: @cursor_ai, @claudeai, @vercel, perfect freehand by @steveruizok, @framermotion, opentype.js, and others.

The system reads your handwriting, solves it instantly, and even keeps the result in your handwriting style. No typing. No switching formats. Just write → solve → continue. I find this kind of AI interesting. Not dramatic automation. Just technology quietly adapting to how humans already think and work. Sometimes the most meaningful AI innovations are the ones that **remove friction without changing behavior. You don’t have to choose between pen and paper or keyboard. Interesting essay! The line “What you need is a […] pen that provides resistance” is striking and does capture how the friction of handwriting can support discipline. But you also show how tools keep shifting: typewriters pushed speed, computers made revision cheap, and now interactive ink adds convenience to handwriting. In the end it’s the habit of pausing and structuring thoughts that really matters. The tools can help that along, but none of them owns it.

Before WhatsApp, emails and DM, every legal document, business contract, and personal message was written by hand. Your grand parents spent years perfecting their penmanship. If you're luckily you still learned cursive, but do you still write?

Love the “AI as teaching partner” angle. But because it relies on printed homework that has to be scanned and analyzed, feedback only comes later. With a tablet, pen and handwriting recognition, homework becomes interactive: you still have handwriting, ink is fully editable and teachers can deliver targeted tutoring in real time.
