When I was making the Polypaths series, I always felt the real heart of the project wasn't the final image, but the system behind it. The output is just what happens. The real magic is in the underlying logic. There are a bunch of ways to build a generative system, but with Polypaths, every single parameter is tightly linked. They all influence each other, and sometimes, when everything lines up just right, something almost spiritual just appears. The pieces on @verse_works were curated by collectors. But for the @GalerieMet version, I wanted to take the lead as the artist. My goal was to push the system further and see what else it could do. I made a few subtle tweaks, a bit of magic, you could say, and adjusted how the parameters related to each other. The result was a set of works that felt different from the previous series. This whole process really proved to me that in generative art, the structure and architecture are way more important than the final output. This is why the artist's version exists. It's not a replacement; it’s a way to show more of the system's inner life. It reveals how a complex, responsive structure can create an entire ecosystem of variations. It reminds me why I'm so passionate about generative art. It’s not just a tool for making pretty pictures, but a way of thinking, building, and seeing the world.

I draw the plants as 2D billboards. This feels closer to botanical illustration: clean silhouettes, fewer faces, and lighter SVG output. It also makes the file much easier to recolor, add post-effects to, or procedurally restyle later.

Pure math. No IK, no rig. Every part moves together , not because of skeletons, but because the whole plant grows along a single path I designed.Tweak one parameter, the entire structure responds.

@SADBEAST13 Polypaths isn’t meant to compete with game systems. It’s more about exploring the unknown, it ends up closer to a diary. This is an earlier state.

The host stem sets the vine's base direction, but the vine still plays by its own rules — how tightly it coils, how far it sits, which way it spirals. And then there's light. Leaves react to where it comes from — when the host leans, the leaves lean with it, following the local tangent instead of stubbornly facing the sky. Vine is the one algorithm here that needs two curves living together: one to hold things up, one to wrap around with rules of its own.

Built a few leaf arrangements modeled after real plants. The brutal part was the angles — leaves chase the sun, the stem doesn't always cooperate. Three patterns (alternate / opposite / whorled) × four leaf types. Even split heart leaves into hoya-kerrii (petiole at the tip) vs peperomia (petiole at the notch) — both real. Every angle is an hour with a field guide.
