Goku's first appearance isn't even in the final chapter of Dr. Slump. The first goku reveal (before it was publicly revealed) was part of a cafe in nagoya in aichi prefecture i think it was. It was a cafe toriyama frequently visited. He revealed this to his fanclub.

George RR Martin last year said he only had hundreds of pages to go on The Winds of Winter: "I have like 1,100 pages written but I still have hundreds more pages to go. How can he still have hundreds of pages to go after 12 years?
