This is a story of Protestant under-achievement and, Political dereliction from the DUP and TUV. The old ‘Protestant work ethic’ is still there, but the old jobs aren’t. Instead of crying about educated Catholics, perhaps Jim Allister should bring forward policy proposals designed to improve education outcomes for young Protestants? But he will not. Allister is a grifter and a charlatan. Unionists must not be fooled by this pathetic pound-shop Paisley.

@Aldamir I would say based on geography: Unionists residing in Ireland = Irish British people in Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) = British Seems simple actually.

I think we in northern Ireland should really consider banning drivers from the Republic of Ireland driving here. They can’t bloody drive. They don’t know how the dual carriage way works. Slip roads etc

@JonBurrowsMLA Once more I ask, Have you a comment on yesterdays verdict? If not I will take it you are happy to admit that British army veterans are war criminals and should be treated as such

Arch separatists Sinn Féin have failed, yet again, to block a proposal to sign the Armed Forces Covenant in Belfast. They attempted to stop a DUP motion through obscure council committee processes, though were outwitted once more.. belfastlive.co.uk/news/belfast-n…

Can’t work with the largest section of the population because an English person killed an Irish person more than half a century ago. Just say what you mean. You hate them’uns regardless.
Dáithí Ó Cathgalain@DaveIphone215

Day 2 and still silent from thw unionists loyalist but if it had of been the other outlook you could be sure they would all be flat out on here.. it just proves that any killing by state army is ok in there eyes .. how can anyone work alongside these people .. RIP to the victims

@BaronoftheMaine Would you describe them as war crimes and say that those involved should face justice and be placed in prison? Furthermore would you classify their actions as murder?

A clear, but measured judgment. It is clear that the soldiers did not act in a reasonable manner - to put it mildly. But one thing ignored by most media outlets, apart from RTÉ, is that the regiment should never have been deployed on that fateful evening. Two members of the 1st Kings Regiment were shot and injured by the IRA a matter of hours before the dreadful Springhill Massacre. The soldiers were fired-up, petrified, and lustful for revenge. By today’s standards, those men would have remained in the barracks, instead they were on the streets of Springhill a matter of hours after the attempted murder of their friends and comrades. A tragic observation, an explanation but certainly not a justification. I wish peace upon the families of those murdered on that day.
Ó Muirigh Solicitors@OMuirighSols

Springhill Inquest findings: The Coroner finds that all 5 of the deceased were shot by soldiers from 1st Kings Regiment, firing from Corry’s yard, in breach of yellow card and that force used by soldiers was unreasonable!

@BaronoftheMaine Yes things are nuanced. War crimes aren’t. They’re black and white and your failure to acknowledge that makes a mockery of yourself.

@NeutralPulse_ Well, the Paras aren’t popular in the Shankill. Things are more nuanced than your pontifications.

@BaronoftheMaine More deaths in a Catholic community - sectarian. Simple. Show me the war crimes they committed against any people who believe they are British in NI. They simply only performed war crimes against the native Irish.

@NeutralPulse_ Like any army, they tended to focus on the perceived enemy, the IRA. That created the conditions for higher casualties in republican areas. But to describe the entire organisation as sectarian is mythological hyperbole.

@BaronoftheMaine The evidence says otherwise, though regardless of your claim, to suggest the British army was not actively sectarian in Ireland is blatantly untrue. That you know but refuse to acknowledge.

@BaronoftheMaine Looking at the British army’s kill record, I’d say they were more sectarian than any paramilitary force. If you want to ignore that, go ahead.

@NeutralPulse_ The IRA’s raison d'être was sectarian slaughter. The British Army’s was one of protection. Doesn’t mean they got everything right.

@BaronoftheMaine Emotions of soldiers should not equate to killing civilians. You know this is an implied excuse. Hang your head in shame. Though you hate nationalists, we all grieve the same and murder is murder. You cannot condemn the IRA without condemning the British army.

@BaronoftheMaine Had the unfortunate pleasure of reading the tweet which was essentially an excuse for war crimes. Look at yourself in the mirror.

@BeattieDoug Any comment on the cowardly actions of the “soldiers” (aka terrorists) which caused the springhill families so much grief? After all you’re a terrorist yourself. Defend them or admit you belong in prison as a war criminal

This sinister & cowardly attack has shown a level of learning by the terrorist. In Lurgan the Timer Power Unit (TPU) failed & the devise didn’t detonate. This time the TPU didn’t fail. It’s clear violent republicans old & new are speaking to each other & passing on information.
