In sum, I recommend checking out @OfDogsAndMenDOC. It’s a gripping yet fair exploration of a thorny first-world problem. Hopefully the film leads to greater awareness of the issue and a reduction in police shootings that involve dogs. 8/8 FIN

As for that call from ADT yesterday - turns out it was a false alarm. A minor inconvenience, really. But I’m glad I didn’t ask ADT to send the police because it would have been a waste of their time. Also they (correctly IMO) issue small fines for responding to false alarms. 7/8

Some of the footage from @OfDogsAndMenDOC is just gutwrentching. Graphic clips of cops rolling up to homes and flat out capping mutts for no discernible reason. Seemingly routine situations turned unnecessarily tragic. 6/8

Mainly, I was worried that my dog, Conan, might be sorta jerky if the cops showed up and I wasn’t around to control him. He’s never outright bitten or attacked anyone, but like many dogs he’s territorial and often barks at strangers when aggravated. 5/8

This gave me pause. Even though I’ve had nothing but positive experiences w @ArlingtonVaPD over the years, I thought it would just be better if I just went home and checked on the alarm myself. 4/8

...I remembered some of the rough cuts of @OfDogsAndMenDOC I’d seen over the years when it was in development, including some insanely egregious & graphic scenes of “puppycide” (police officers shooting dogs w little to no cause). 3/8

Just the other day I received a sudden call at work from ADT. House alarm triggered. The rep asked if I wanted her to contact the @ArlingtonVaPD to investigate. I almost said “yes,” but then... 2/8

Great screening of @OfDogsAndMenDOC at @CatoInstitute last night. I remember when the filmmakers were getting this project off the ground a few years back. Always a pleasure to see artists make it to the finish line. Congrats! On a related note... 1/8

Glad that @OfDogsAndMenDOC includes Colorado Senate footage of @UPS drivers testifying about how they deliver packages to homes with dogs every day and are able to do so without harming or killing the dogs. Why are police consistently held to a lower bar than civilians? #CatoCj

The most eye-opening thing @OfDogsAndMenDOC creators learned while making the film: police officers can get written up for NOT shooting your dog when they come to your house #CatoCJ
