@dampedspring @ripley212121 This is the best argument for the federal DOE. If you push it down to more and more local levels, you get more and more unequal funding; those who need the most support get the least.

@ripley212121 DOE is a wealth transfer scheme from rich to poor best done at the federal level. But again pass

@gawwy @fundstrat I had the same thought. Middle and high school English was about 50/50 of holocaust to non-holocaust. These numbers are probably not the schools’ fault. More likely those who grew up with the internet tend to default to skepticism.

@fundstrat this is impossible unless the curriculum changed. when i grew up all we heard about was holocaust this and that, while other genocides, japanese atrocities etc were largely ignored. i doubt that has changed.

@heyalexfriedman Buying makes more sense if: -you’re sure you won’t move soon -you’re bad at saving in other ways -you have kids/pets who need space -you can find a great deal Doesn’t sound like many of these apply to you.

I’m starting to not see the point in buying a house anymore. - Most houses I’ve looked at are over valued. - Property taxes (in Texas) are wild. - I have to maintain everything. - Mortgage would be more than my rent. - No guarantee value would increase. - Less amenities than a luxury apartment. Am I crazy for feeling this way? I feel crazy for feeling this way.

@unusual_whales If you’re making the choice now, rent. Avoid the high interest mortgage, the expensive maintenance, and the risk of home prices decreasing.

@PedroYokes @SwannMarcus89 A lot less likely now, but still a little more likely than a mortgage or a credit card.

I can't get over this tweet. She's the granddaughter of a longtime member of the US House, she's married to a serial entrepreneur who ran talent acquisition on the Clinton campaign, she's got a household income of like $300,000, and she was on Crain's 40 under 40 list in 2019

In 2012, I graduated from Fordham Law School with $180,000 is student loan debt. I’ve been paying loans for 11 years. Even paid two of them off completely. In 2023, my balance is $206,000.

Let's just ask: have you ever been mistaken for "the help" - i.e., a gainfully employed Assistant Manager - in any store, and asked some basic question about whatever they happen to sell?

JUST IN: U.S. debt ceiling now up $572 billion since the debt ceiling was raised just 2 weeks ago. Total U.S. debt is now at a record $32 trillion. Currently, the interest expense alone on this debt is $1.3 billion per day. The debt ceiling crisis was a distraction from the real crisis. We have a borrowing problem.

@ninaturner Why not try a different method? Instead of forgiveness, put the money towards eliminating interest and a program where the government matches payments made. It’s basically like 50% forgiveness, but conservatives can feel better about it because borrowers are paying.

Progressives wanted all student debt cancelled, the NAACP called for $50k to be cancelled, the Biden administration went with $10k. Neoliberals said “don’t let the perfect get in the way of the good!” Now, as the cancelation could be struck down completely, neoliberals are saying “just pay back your loans!” This is why compromising neoliberals is not the answer—they never wanted to compromise, they wanted to shut progressives up.

Why are US men less likely to complete college? R.Reeves emphasises poverty, family stress, paternal absence, & male role models. But wait. What if we’re more comparative? The gender gap is LARGER in predominately white European countries & Oceania, with fewer single parents.
