Half of the Sun’s content is the most bald-faced racism you’ve ever seen. The other half is this:

Springsteen has been open for decades about how huge Dylan was for him. He discovered Highway 61 Revisited as a teenager and called "Like a Rolling Stone" a mind-blowing, culture-changing moment that "thrilled and scared" him. In his autobiography Born to Run, he straight-up calls Dylan "the father of my country"—the guy who painted a raw, truthful picture of America that resonated with a kid from small-town New Jersey.
Early on, Springsteen's debut album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. (1973) was packed with dense, wordy, character-driven lyrics that screamed Dylan influence (think "Blinded by the Light"). Critics and the industry even hyped him as "the next Bob Dylan" when he got signed to Columbia by the same guy (John Hammond) who discovered Dylan. Springsteen later said he got self-conscious about the comparisons and deliberately moved away from that super-literary style toward something more direct and rock-driven. Looking back, he admitted he kind of wishes he hadn't pulled back so fast.
He also wanted to "write like Bob Dylan and sing like Roy Orbison"—that's his own quote.

Thank you all for the love and support for Valerie over the years. It meant the world to her. She will be laid to rest this week. She loved life, and she lived it to the fullest. She lived in the moment and carried no regrets.❤️
