Governor Kehoe's executive order on A-F letter grades for schools and districts in Missouri is the right idea. Unfortunately, bills currently moving through the legislature are making things worse by adding unnecessary elements and straying from the main focus.

Several Missouri counties have a measure on the ballot to eliminate property tax increases from reassessment. @davidcstokes explains why that goes too far and what it could mean for local schools and government funding.

“You can look at all the different things that are not taxed today in terms of goods or services, and they’re not consumed evenly across the income distribution. So it really just depends on what all gets included.”
