Guess what? Many people still buy furniture via traditional furniture stores. In fact, South Africa’s Lewis Group just broke the R10 billion revenue mark for the first time ever! While e-commerce grabs the headlines, traditional brick-and-mortar retail is quietly crushing it. Here is a look at their massive FY2026 numbers: 📈 Revenue: Up 11.1% to R10.3B 💰 Operating Profit: Up 12.8% to R1.3B 🏪 Expansion: Opened a record 58 net new stores (bringing total footprint to 976) 👥 Customer Base: Expanded by 11% (+77,000 accounts) The credit retail model and strong physical footprint continue to win big with middle-income consumers. Are you surprised traditional furniture retail is still growing this fast?

Is SpaceX worth a trillion dollars? So here's the disclaimer: I have been wrong before on valuations for tech businesses. Wildly wrong. I remember in 2008-2009 arguing with my friend Vinny Lingham about Facebook's valuation. Vinny was trying to convince me that Facebook was actually worth the $15 billion valuation, which they were raising off. For context, Facebook itself was valuing itself at $4 billion for internal stock sales. Discounted stock prices for internal sales are not uncommon, but a discount this deep didn't make sense to me. Anyway, Vinny was trying to convince me that Facebook (given its scale potential) was actually worth much more than the $15 billion valuation of the day. In the fullness of time, it's become clear he was right & I was wrong. Vinny has a habit of doing that. In 2014, he told me I should invest in Bitcoin. This was in 2014. Crypto was as mainstream as it is now, & buying or selling was like trading ice with an Eskimo. But both he and I were standing in the changing room, half-naked, in the dead of winter. Maybe it was the dingy Newtown venue changing rooms, but I decided to listen. It was like pulling teeth, but I eventually found a way and got some Bitcoin. Now, I told Vinny that this was a fad. I didn't see the mainstream adoption case or the scale case. Admittedly, I was wrong. What pains me is that I sold too early. But hey, you win some, you lose some. You get the gist. Bitcoin Lingham was right again. Point: my experience has taught me to be wary of holding hard convictions when investing in emergent technologies, especially when the technology is disruptive, in a market frontier & nascent. There are too many variables to compute, and our simple brains & compounded by our classical business training, struggle to compute the upside potential & scale advantage of disruptive technologies. - BUT - I just read the S-1 IPO filing for SpaceX, and something in these numbers doesn't make sense to me. Loss-making. Margin drag from xAI. Ridiculously expensive, with an eye-watering revenue-to-valuation multiple. Now, I may be missing the bigger picture here. But add the related-party transactions between SpaceX & Tesla, and the losses generated by xAI, mean a lot has to go right for these valuations to hold. Maybe I should call @VinnyLingham and hear what he thinks. But for now, I am going to sit this one out. VT

There's this common notion that "rich people dress cheaply or simple" and that it's only broke people who put so much effort into dressing nice But you need to understand why a rich person can dress simple BUT you an average person cannot. When a rich person dresses simple, he/she is actually demonstrating how powerful they are. That they have climbed the social status ladder, they're beyond criticism > J. Cole can dress simple because he is multi platinum recording artist, when you see him, you see awards > Jack Dorsey can dress simple because he is filthy rich tech guru, wheb you see him, you see Twitter > Mark Zuckerberg can dress simple because he is a billionaire, when you see him, you see Facebook, Instagram & WhatsApp > Steve Jobs could dress simple because he was a genius inventor, when you see him, you see the iPhone These are just some of the many examples of rich and famous people who dress simple because they have already conquered, so we see them in a different light But you an average person wanting to copy their dressing, people will see you as either broke or a bum or mentally unstable. If you still haven't achieved anything great, your dressing matters, that's the only way people will pay attention to you • A rich person dressed simple = humble • An average person dressed simple = poor, stupid, backward, mentally unstable Same outfit. Different status. Stop copying celebrities or influential figures who have already conquered the world, thinking you're projecting confidence. When in reality you're giving unseriousness. Your image matters the most, if you're still on the come up Learn OR perish!!!

The Nepalese are a good and kind people and I know many of them However the only reason their society manages to function is because we give them subsidized petroleum and food If it were not for help from India, Nepal would cease to be a nation state Nepal is making a tactical mistake, which is an opportunity for us to cut our subsidies to them to save money We are going to need the money for ourselves soon, because WW3 has started. And we will eventually need to enter the war to secure oil and fertilizer for ourselves

Am I the only person who cannot review an important document digitally? I still print the paper, take my red pen to mark up my comments, and use my black pen to add to the document. Once done, I sit behind the computer and add those mark-ups after the fact (okay okay I confess, my EA does this part) And then share with the document co-authors or publish as the case may be. Does anybody else have the same illness?

I’ve noticed that this type of coffin costs between R800 and R1500, yet many rich and wealthy people choose simple coffins like these compared to most of us. Yes, we all have our own choices, and I respect that. But sometimes I ask myself why has a casket become a symbol of dignity and status? The sad reality is that many people end up borrowing money just to upgrade from a coffin to an expensive casket. But why though? To impress people or what? 🤔

Men It's OK to want a virgin. It's OK to date a lady in her early 20s. It's OK to say you don't date a broke, jobless lady. It's OK to shun fat or chubby women, as they call themselves. It's OK to avoid ladies who can't cook & are unwilling to learn. Set your standards & never go below them. Don't succumb to their shame game. It's a tactic used by the worst of women, who are in the majority, to make you select them.

South Africans are not nearly angry enough at being taken for a poes. This latest Johannesburg farce - 62% salary hikes for the CEOs of the Property Company and Tourism Company and 19% for Theatres while the city is bankrupt - is just the latest example of the obscene waste, corruption and gross incompetence that define ANC governance. You would expect these officials to at least pretend to have some shame before helping themselves so shamelessly to public funds. But they don’t. Although South Africans are slow to anger, as Archbishop Tutu warned, “Watch out!” We’ve seen what happens when simmering discontent finally turns to blind rage. I strongly recommend and urge @CyrilRamaphosa @PresidencyZA @MYANC to take urgent action to stop this and other shameless abuse of public funds.

This is a lady who came from working in a boutique to the Met Gala red carpet. Her finances changed & it's all because of MARRIAGE. She had no tangible skills, she didn't sweat it out, she made no investments, no capital, no sleepless nights. Heck! she isn't even a 9 to my standards. But she became a billionaire overnight because she has a hole between her legs & a man like myself wanted to own that hole. Women live life on easy mode.

Some future leaders don’t just inherit thrones, they’re built for them: Kim Jong-un (North Korea) Sent to Switzerland for elite education, then fast-tracked through the military and party ranks in his late teens/early 20s. Mohammed bin Salman (Saudi Arabia) Given major responsibilities in his 20s, including Defense Minister at 29, and carefully positioned as successor. Bashar al-Assad (Syria) Originally trained as an eye doctor in London, but pulled back and rapidly groomed after his older brother died in a car crash. King Abdullah II (Jordan) Received extensive military and diplomatic training from a young age. 'Gotta start them young' taken to another level.

Since the end of apartheid on April 27, 1994, the African National Congress (ANC) has implemented Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) and its subsequent broad-based version (BBBEE). These frameworks were designed to integrate Black citizens into the formal economy, stimulate growth, lower unemployment, and narrow the wealth gap. Despite these goals, the ANC has conceded that these programs have failed to deliver significant progress for the majority of Black South Africans, particularly women. Economic life has seen little advancement in the three decades following apartheid. While a small group of Black entrepreneurs has flourished, their success often occurs within an economic structure that remains rigged to favor a select few. Evidence suggests that the primary winners of BEE have been politically connected figures and party insiders. This elite group includes President Cyril Ramaphosa, former Gauteng Premier Tokyo Sexwale, ex-MP Saki Macozoma, and Bridgette Radebe. Their immense wealth stands in sharp contrast to the reality of ordinary South Africans, who continue to face the fallout of state capture, systemic corruption, failing public services, and significant underfunding in healthcare and education. Racial quotas and these fraudulent laws are deeply flawed. They only benefit government officials and act as a systematic looting machine that offers no benefit to ordinary citizens.
Farai Mazhindu@FaraiMazhindu

BEE laws are flawed. Once the discriminatory laws of the past are removed, the playing field should be governed by merit and competence, not a new set of race based filters. If the goal is freedom, then the state must stop acting as a racial gatekeeper.

South Africa today mirrors Zimbabwe in the year 2000. The era of romanticizing liberation heroes and the beloved party is finally fading. For too long, the bar for governance was set low under the guise of tolerating native leadership. Now, the consequences of attempting to avenge historical racial wrongs through economic manipulation and reactionary laws are becoming undeniable. The failure is now too big to hide, but instead of building, people are looking for quick fixes. We see shortcuts like land reform being pushed as a mask for land grabs, a move already proving to be a disaster. The truth is, there is no scarcity of resources or means of production in South Africa, what is lacking is decisive, visionary, and competent leadership. What was promised to benefit everyone is instead benefiting only those at the top table. We have watched as the South African government has spiraled into corruption, with state tenders manipulated by a tenderpreneur circle connected to the pulse of power. South African capital is being moved abroad under the custody of the political elite, while foreign investments within the country are being hijacked by those same gatekeepers. South Africa's problems are governance problems. There is no external influence or conspiracy at play, despite what politicians claim to deflect blame. Now is the time for a sober electorate to demand accountability and competence. The current state of affairs requires people who prioritize logic over emotion. It's not a time to be race-baited or emotionally manipulated into supporting bad policies that will haunt the next generation. — Media curated by @jozivsjozi

My buddy's LLC has 6 employees, a warehouse, and $340,000 in revenue ...None of that is real The LLC exists. It's registered with the state. Has an EIN. Has a business checking account at Chase with $1,000 in it The 6 employees? That's what he typed on the Amex application under "number of employees." Amex didn't call them. Because they don't exist The warehouse? That's the "business address" he listed. It's a virtual office he rents for $49/month that gives him a real street address and mail forwarding The $340,000 in revenue? That's "projected annual revenue" for a business that has produced exactly $0 since he formed it 3 weeks ago Chase gave him $55,000 Amex gave him $75,000 Capital One gave him $40,000 US Bank gave him $25,000 $195,000 total. All at 0% APR. For a business that has never made a single dollar "That's fraud" No. Putting KNOWINGLY FALSE information on a credit application is fraud under 18 U.S.C. § 1014. But "projected revenue" is a real thing every startup reports. Every YC company projecting $10M ARR on day 1 is doing the same math. The difference is they project it to VCs and give up 20% equity. He projected it to Chase and gave up 0% The banks primarily approve based on your PERSONAL credit score for business card applications. The revenue field and employee count are secondary signals that get minimal verification on most standard business card apps His personal score: 728. Normal. Average That 728 score on a personal card application would get him $8K-$12K at 22% APR That same 728 on business card applications got him $195K at 0% APR Same human. Same credit. Same brain. Different product. Different counter at the same bank Here's the part that makes finance bros lose their minds: Business cards don't report balances to personal credit bureaus. He can carry $195K across 4 business cards and his personal credit report shows basically $0 in debt. Utilization at 2%. Score stays at 728 He went and got a personal mortgage 2 months later. The mortgage lender saw a clean borrower with almost no debt. Approved at 6.2% $195K in business debt. Invisible to the mortgage lender. Two separate credit profiles for the same person. Both legal He used $80K to actually start the business (marketing agency). Revenue hit $27K/month by month 4. Paid every card off from cash flow. Still has all the credit lines open for round 2 The "projected $340,000 in revenue" is looking pretty accurate now actually lmao (we build the full entity + credit stack. if your personal score needs work first, we fix that in 30-90 days... then we build the LLC and run the funding sequence. $100K-$250K at 0%. link in bio)
