Whoever believes in efficient markets haven’t had their fair share of mansplaining exposure Is there any feeling more universal than the urge to explain the universe?

Brad Jacobs playbook: - pump your stock hard, do podcasts, write a book, do whatever it takes to get premium multiple - add back every expense you can and make sure markets value you on grotesquely inflated earnings (adj EBITDA) - use overvalued stock to buy competitors

Burford Capital $BUR Some thoughts (I feel dirty). Book Value ex YPF case ~$5.2 billion. Market cap: ~$1 billion. Burford finances lawsuits and take a cut of damages awarded (hence dirty feeling) Capital-light. Uncorrelated to markets. Historically valued at 1.5x–2.5x book.

@tacoenthusiast2 What do you expect the timeline on distributions to be, anything meaningful after the £18m June 2026 tender before 2028? IRR compresses a lot if the trust is not liquidated within the next 3 years

My whole career I’ve wondered why “margins” gets 1000x more attention than asset turns when they have equal contribution to ROIC.

@rja907 for buybacks to make sense, they would have to return at least a 20% cash yield. In other words, $CSU.TO would have to trade at 5x earnings – the same multiple they acquire businesses for.

While I say this about $CSU and buybacks, I am also reminded of Mr. Leonard's President's letter from 2011: csisoftware.com/docs/default-s…

Mr. Leonard on when $CSU would buyback the stock: youtube.com/watch?v=_WW1U9… I don't mind them buying back at lower prices but if they are going to buyback, it is probably going to be at ~50% drawdown from these prices (comfortably under 10 EV/FCFA2S). Also, Mr. Miller was asked about this in the most recently call when he took over as CEO and this was his response:

@John_Hempton How would you know that the analyst “remains” dumb if they sent it so early in their career? Could have progressed a lot in 3.5 years. You two keep in contact?

@finphysnerd @ReturnsJourney Feels like adding excessive amount of complexity and potential risk to a strategy that’s supposed to be oriented towards wealth preservation Essentially, the question is “why?” Take the lumpier 10-12% with less blowup risk

@ReturnsJourney It's not gambling. If done right (big if) shorting leads to better returns with lower volatility and drawdowns. I'm still learning, but I'm not taking crazy risks especially on the short side.

Had my first decent down day since getting the survivor winnings and it sucks. Upped my short exposure over the past week towards the junky stuff and getting waxed today (particularly some options positions going against me). Percentage amount isn't a lot (1.5%) but the dollar

I have been deleting dozens of names from my @Koyfin hidden champions watchlist that don't have enough quality imo. I will be also adding more quality names. But again I will only focus on the bargains, should they appear.

It’s easy to dismiss uncomfortable truths as “racist”. The British establishment often does. Like when @maitlis interviewed @RupertLowe10 on grooming gangs. It’s harder to confront the truth. The truth may be uncomfortable but facts cannot be racist. These are the facts: 🧵
The News Agents@TheNewsAgents

"Why do you 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 talk about Pakistani grooming gangs? There are 𝙩𝙚𝙣 times as many white grooming gang suspects?" @maitlis asks ex-Reform MP @RupertLowe10 why he won't denounce all perpetrators of grooming gangs equally.

@HiddenMonopoly This graph is not controlling for concentration anywhere. it shows that contrarian portfolios (as measured by high active share) with long duration outperform, but hard to tell how much survivorship bias is in these results

Since most of the value these days seems to be on the DMs, I'm going to create a few DM groups of Sectors that I'm interested in to share ideas, discuss views, articles, earnings, etc. Reply with which one you'd like to join (ticker list are just examples): Music (SPOT UMG WMG) Luxury (LVMH CFR RMS MONC) Cross Border Payments (WISE RELY SNEX CPAY CABP) Serial Acquirers (with long runway like CSU, JDG) I'm also interested in discussing the following tickers (which don't have great comps), if there's enough interest I'll make a stock specific DM $BRK $WOSG.LN $FEVR.LN $UHAL $NU (or could do Latam Fintech too)
