@megtirrell Thanks for the story. Kids will be significantly impacted by the CVS Caremark decision because Pulmicort is a dry powder, breath actuated inhaler which children can have difficulty using. Insurers must make generic Flovent or comparable formulations preferred drugs for kids.

CVS Caremark says the authorized generic of Flovent is more expensive than branded alternatives — based on net prices. That suggests makers of branded asthma drugs are paying bigger rebates to obtain better insurance coverage. So many insurers are prioritizing other drugs.

The makers of insulin, for example, announced price reductions on their products of 70% or more. Analysts estimate this could save the companies hundreds of millions of $ per year in avoiding greater rebates to Medicaid. (h/t @Luhby)
