The House Intelligence Committee just held our annual hearing assessing worldwide threats. As we sit here in Washington, our Armed Forces, and our intelligence assets, are engaged in conflict with the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism. Iran is a radical, ruthless, and murderous regime that has killed and maimed thousands of U.S. troops and citizens over the past fifty years. I asked our nation’s highest ranking intelligence officials to go into detail about the threats our Armed Forces have eliminated in Iran and which threats still remain. Watch his answer here.

It has now been more than 25 years since passage of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, important data privacy legislation. While the basic framework has held strong, we’ve seen countless changes take place in the financial services sector, and the time is ripe for Congress to make much-needed updates. Over the years, a patchwork of different compliance regimes has sprung up across the United States, and I questioned witnesses during our Financial Services Committee hearing today on how this patchwork impacts compliance and competition. Watch here.

WATCH: @RepAnnWagner on the need for updates to the GLBA: “At the time of its enactment, Gramm-Leach-Bliley was an important step towards modernizing the rules that govern our financial services industry and providing guidance on how customers’ data was to be handled. However, it has now been more than 25 years since its passage, and while the basic framework has held strong, we've seen countless changes take place in the financial services sector and obviously the time is ripe for Congress to make much needed updates.” 📺⬇️

I appreciated visiting with leadership at the Hermann Area District Hospital and learning about their facilities. Many of my constituents in Franklin and Warren counties use these critical medical services, and my visit to this rural hospital underscored how important it is that we work with them on the federal level to ensure patients get the care they deserve.

I stopped by State Rep. Phil Oehlerking’s office to thank him for all he is doing for the Ballwin community. We are both working to reduce the cost of living and will ensure our communities remain a safe place to live and to raise a family.

I had the pleasure of addressing the Republicans of the Missouri Senate earlier this week. I shared the important work we are doing in Congress to lower costs for American families and protect the homeland.

Your Missouri House Republicans were hard at work for you this week. I took a little time during their caucus meeting to give an update on our work in DC and how we must work together to lower the cost of living and put more money back in people’s pockets.

I had a great meeting at the Missouri Soybean Association in Jefferson City. It’s great to hear first hand about all of the work our farmers are doing to feed the world. I’ll always have their backs.

Last week, my Capital Markets Subcommittee heard from expert witnesses on the role of Self-Regulatory Organizations, or SROs, in our capital markets. SROs were created to improve accountability, not provide a shortcut around it. I asked our witnesses whether SROs still reflect industry stewardship and what changes can improve fairness, transparency, and efficiency at both organizations. It was great to meet with President Mun Choi from the University of Missouri (UM) last week. We discussed the amazing work the UM System is doing to advance research and innovation in both the agricultural and defense industries. I am proud to work alongside Mizzou as it continues to create opportunities for students, researchers, and local businesses, as well as serve numerous communities throughout our great state. This year, Mizzou and I are teaming up to advance a number of different initiatives. I will be leading efforts to enhance academic and commercial collaboration to reinforce Missouri’s defense industrial ecosystem that will greatly benefit the development of the new, state-of-the-art F-47 stealth fighter. I will also be working with my colleagues in Congress to strengthen our state’s capacity to develop critical materials used across the defense industry and to expand the use of Missouri-made, cutting-edge batteries used in our most advanced nuclear submarines.

I am utterly shocked that House and Senate Democrats voted against DHS funding today while the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism is lobbing missiles and drones at anything they can.  Today’s vote was simple: do you support protecting our country from the many threats facing us?  Democrats said no, and they made it clear they stand with illegal immigrants over the safety of American citizens.   Today I proudly voted to fund the Department of Homeland Security and get government back up and running and working for the people. Democrats are playing partisan games with the safety and security of our nation, and every day they keep DHS, TSA, and the Coast Guard shut down, they are endangering the lives of Americans.

Thank you to FirstSpear for meeting with us in my Washington, D.C. office last week for an informative discussion on their state-of-the-art body armor that is used by our law enforcement and military. I learned more about their cutting-edge technology that makes their armor lighter and stronger to protect our troops. FirstSpear is a top-notch Missouri company based in Fenton, and I appreciate hearing about all the ways they partner with local and federal law enforcement to keep them safe.

Our community banks play a vital role in the success of our friends and neighbors. I enjoyed hearing their perspective on the health of our financial system. Having just passed the INVEST Act in the House, I look forward to working with my colleagues in Missouri and in Congress to support growth for small businesses and families in our community. @mobankers

Tax season has begun! For those of you who are 65 and older, Congressional Republicans passed the Working Families Tax Cut that allows you to deduct the taxes from your Social Security benefits. That’s a new, enhanced deduction up to $12,000 for our married seniors. Make sure you don’t miss out! If you have any questions, reach out to me and my office at Wagner.House.Gov.
