National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has signed a tripartite MoU with Suzuki R&D Center India Pvt. Ltd. and Surat District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. @SumulRoot for setting up a 75 MTPD dung-based Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant at Surat, Gujarat. The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. @ShahMeenesh, Chairman, NDDB; Shri Kenichiro Toyofuku, Director, SRDI; Shri H. R. Patel, Custodian; and Shri Arun Purohit, Managing Director, Sumul Dairy. This MoU marks a significant step under NDDB’s leadership towards promoting sustainability and circularity in the dairy sector. The project will generate clean CBG and nutrient-rich organic fertilisers, helping improve soil health, reduce dependence on chemical fertilisers, promote climate-resilient farming, create additional income opportunities for dairy farmers and contribute to India’s carbon neutrality goals.

The project will help improve soil health, reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers, promote natural farming practices, create additional income opportunities for dairy farmers, and contribute meaningfully to India’s carbon neutrality goals. SUMUL Dairy has been actively working in the renewable energy space and has already installed 6,543 family-size biogas plants. In addition, community biogas plants and farm-level biogas plants have also been successfully implemented, strengthening dung management and clean energy generation at the grassroots level. The celebration beautifully reflected the spirit of unity, cooperation, and integrity — the very principles that form the foundation of the cooperative movement envisioned by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
