Yes, exactly. Having a speech impairment is very common. It should not be a stigma...and has NOTHING to do with the intelligence of the child. Children have developmental milestones they reach as a general guide for consonants and vowel mastery. And its through early intervention (NO MEDICATION) of short 30m speech therapy, that SUPPORTS the child's present speech. Speech therapy is actually a pretty quick fix with articulation issues--3-6 months of 2x week therapy. Most kids think its FUN! Once the parents know how to support the Child's present speech, its a natural process towards helping to redirect any approximations the Child makes, and it all happens very quickly and naturally. Yes, they all do sound cute, but if they do not get support before "school age", new issues come up for them- teasing, frustrations, withdrawing from speaking all together etc. I thought my post was compassionate towards this sweet boy, not sure what the drama is over the comment. And btw- What if "I" was that child and speak from experience! What if.....when you see it, you recognize it, and you know it. Chill out! "Guideline"- nothing is rigid or set in stone.
