Uhh I hate to break it to you, but the passenger train in Canada is a monopoly. Whereas flying has multiple companies, including foreign ones. Also using taxpayer $90 billion (it will be $200 billion which is $200,000,000,000.00) to a monopoly is exactly what you just said governments should not do....

Fun fact: Trump's Moon base is expected to cost $20B. The high speed rail connecting Quebec City and Toronto will cost $90B. And, ironically, the same number of people will use both
