@GamingAndPandas That around 2012 there was a concerted intentional effort to demoralize everyone and make them weak and constantly miserable. Every piece of architecture, every car, every movie, etc. became grey and brown minimalist crap so the world itself seemed lifeless.

There's a pretty big difference between 1977 THE HOBBIT and 1978 LORD OF THE RINGS The Hobbit was a TV movie made for children, lower budget, intentionally not scary, and not as detailed. Ralph Bakshi made the 1978 movie, and it definitely is scary, and more nuanced.
