My two best friends dragged me into a physical store for the first time in ten years - and we accidentally found out it was Women's Day when we got there. Three women, zero intention, wrong holiday. I arrived first, which meant standing alone surrounded by actual humans with no script. Do I make eye contact? Do I nod? I was texting my friends from inside the store like a hostage: "What's the social code here?" Then I found a dress I liked but not in my size. So I mourned it and walked away - because that's what you do. That's the only world I know. Then my friend goes, "They have all the sizes. Just... pick your size." Stores just have the sizes 🤯All of them. Just sitting there. No mystery, no scarcity, no trauma. l've been psychologically ruined by Ross Dress for Less, where you grab your size like it's the last parachute on a burning plane - and nobody makes eye contact, nobody talks, everyone just silently circles the racks like raccoons in a dumpster pact. Nobody pretended to like you, nobody pretended to have your size, and nobody pretended life was going to be okay. It was the most honest place I’ve ever been 😁

My eldest daughter turned 22 two days ago. As a father to three daughters, moments like this remind me how quickly our children grow. They also remind me that every girl deserves the chance to grow up healthy, safe, and able to pursue her dreams. On this #InternationalWomensDay, I am thinking about my daughters, and the millions of women and girls across Africa whose futures depend on the actions we take today. Yet too many women and girls across our continent still face barriers to the care and support they need to live healthy and safe lives. At @AfricaCDC, we are working with partners to help change that. To my daughters — and to every woman and girl across Africa — may you live healthy lives, pursue your dreams, and reach your full potential. ------ Il y a deux jours, ma fille aînée a eu 22 ans. En tant que père de trois filles, des moments comme celui-ci me rappellent à quel point nos enfants grandissent vite, et combien il est important que chaque fille puisse grandir en bonne santé, en sécurité et poursuivre ses rêves. En cette #JournéeInternationaleDesFemmes, je pense à mes filles, et aux millions de femmes et de filles à travers l’Afrique dont l’avenir dépend des actions que nous prenons aujourd’hui. Pourtant, trop de femmes et de filles sur notre continent rencontrent encore des obstacles pour accéder aux soins et au soutien dont elles ont besoin pour vivre en bonne santé et en sécurité. Au CDC Afrique, nous travaillons avec nos partenaires à travers le continent pour contribuer à changer cette réalité. À mes filles — et à chaque femme et chaque fille en Afrique — je souhaite une vie en bonne santé, la liberté de poursuivre vos rêves et la possibilité de réaliser pleinement votre potentiel.
