1. The approved Capitation for primary school is capped at Ksh 1,400 per year. The funds are usually released by the National Treasury to the Ministry of Education on termly basis in the ratio of 50:30:20. 2. ⁠The capitation amount is arrived at based on clear expenditure lines (vote heads) that are determined by estimated costs incurred by EACH learner. 3. ⁠Upon receipt of the money, and based on the exact amount received, MoE releases the funds with an accompanying circular detailing the expenditure breakdown (vote heads). 4. ⁠The figures in reference to the circular are based on this practice. 5. ⁠In summary, MoE wishes to clarify the following: • MoE determines how much money is allocated to each vote head based on the total amount of capitation received from the National Treasury • Capitation funds are released on three phases corresponding to the school calendar terms • ⁠The circular in reference is based on the 2nd term tranche as received from National Treasury. • ⁠The amounts shown are per learner, not per school -The KSh 95.25 PER LEARNER is for learning materials only (books, stationery, etc.) -The KSh 93.08 PER LEARNER for school operations (staff, maintenance, utilities, exams) @EduMinKenya @_BasicEdu

It is with deep sorrow that I mourn the passing of Prof Raphael Munavu, a distinguished scholar and passionate champion of education whose lifelong service greatly shaped learning in our country. I honour his visionary leadership and invaluable contribution as Chair of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reform, where he helped strengthen the Competency-Based Education (CBE) pathway and chart a stronger future for our education sector. As we reflect on his extraordinary legacy, we are reminded of the noble duty to continue building an education system that is inclusive, innovative, and responsive to the dreams of every Kenyan child. That is the cause to which he dedicated his life. On behalf of the State Department for Basic Education @_BasicEdu and on my own behalf, I convey my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire education fraternity. May his soul rest in eternal peace!

But the creative industry is no longer just space for artistic expression, hobby and entertainment. It has grown into a formidable economic opportunity through which millions are monetising their talents.

I am pleased that our young people are more than ready to seize these opportunities judging by the compelling performances we have witnessed at the annual school and colleges' drama fete. Together with Mama Rachel Ruto, I was honoured to host the 64th Kenya Schools and Colleges National Drama Festivals, State House Nairobi.

The PS wished all participating students, coaches, and officials success, emphasizing the importance of fair, honest, and spirited competition, and reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing talent through school sports.

The national championship, running from April 4th–11th, has brought together over 40 teams from across the country competing in rugby 15s, basketball, hockey, handball, and athletics across key venues including Kisumu Boys High School, Maseno School, and Kisumu School.

Today, I had the honour of signing the MOU between the State Department for Basic Education and KCB Bank Kenya at CEMASTEA, alongside the Managing Director, Mrs. Annastacia Kimtai. This partnership on the solarization of our schools is truly a game changer. Following a successful pilot phase in 266 schools, we were able to identify key gaps and refine our approach, giving us the confidence to scale this initiative effectively. By embracing clean, reliable, and cost-effective energy, we are taking a bold step towards improving learning environments while reducing operational costs in our senior schools. With over 9,600 senior schools across Kenya, the first phase will see 3,213 institutions benefit, setting the foundation for a nationwide transition to sustainable energy in education. Enrollment has since grown to over 2,200 and is projected to exceed 2,800 with the transition to Junior School under CBE. This expansion eases congestion and reinforces our collective commitment to safeguarding access to quality, inclusive, and dignified basic education for every child #ElimuThabiti

At Lenana School Primary Section in Ngando Ward, Dagoretti South, we confirmed the completion of the 24 additional classrooms graciously pledged by H.E. the President and finalized in January 2025. The school was initially commissioned in May 2024 with 22 classrooms and an enrollment of 1,100 learners to address the absence of a public primary school in the area.
