🚨 More rush buying! From the evening of March 9 to the early morning of March 10, on the eve of China's refined oil price increase, gas stations in many places—including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Wuhan, and Chengdu—saw long lines of vehicles as car owners rushed to fill up before the hike. This video shows a very long queue of cars refueling near the Jinniu Interchange in Chengdu. According to the notice from China's National Development and Reform Commission, starting at 24:00 on March 9, retail prices for gasoline and diesel were significantly raised. Gasoline prices increased by 695 yuan ($101) per ton and diesel by 670 yuan ($97) per ton, equivalent to roughly 0.55–0.58 yuan per liter ($0.29–$0.31 per gallon)—one of the largest adjustments in nearly four years. #IranWar

China is sitting on massive oil reserves: Chinese crude oil imports surged +15.8% YoY in February, the biggest monthly jump since August 2023. Growth rates have QUADRUPLED since the end of 2025. After over a year of stockpiling, China has built up an estimated 1.2 billion barrels of reserves. This includes ~851 million barrels of commercial inventory, the supply that would likely be used first. Meanwhile, refiners could start drawing as much as 1 million barrels per day over the next 4 to 6 weeks. In the first week of the Iran War, Beijing already ordered its biggest refiners to restrict fuel exports and prioritize gasoline and diesel production over chemicals as a precautionary move. China is playing the long game amid the Iran War.

Al Jazeera is now running the headline "The US-Israeli strategy against Iran is working." Prof. @MuhanadSeloom argues that despite what the skeptics are understandably worried about, "When you look at what has actually happened to Iran’s principal instruments of power – its ballistic missile arsenal, its nuclear infrastructure, its air defences, its navy and its proxy command architecture – the picture is not one of US failure. It is one of systematic, phased degradation of a threat that previous administrations allowed to grow for four decades." He adds, perhaps to head off the naysayers who'll write him off as a "Zionist," "I have worked for the US Department of State and advised defence and intelligence agencies in multiple countries. I have no interest in cheerleading for war. "But I have spent my academic career studying how states authorise the use of force through intelligence institutions, and what I see in the current campaign is a recognisable military operation proceeding through identifiable phases against an adversary whose capacity to project power is collapsing in real time." Prof. Seloom is right. This is a well-planned war with clear objectives. And most of the people saying otherwise are confusing what's happening in 2026 with their desire to relitigate Iraq in 2003. But more interesting than the professor's arguments is the simple fact that Al Jazeera now feels free to publish this sort of thing, that Qatar is tentatively dipping a toe into this new narrative.
