If it's built for that architecture the game or program will just work. No login or permission required from anyone else.

@GamewithDave I had one red circle and refused to replace it or purchase an xbone. Ended up buying an xbox series and had it die after an update (probably bad NVMe)... fool me twice. Bought my first Playstation (PS5) and won't be bothering with Microsoft gaming in the future.

PlayStation support has confirmed that a new digital rights management policy for the console is intentional, not a glitch. Starting with any digital games purchased after the March 2026 system update, your PS5 will require an internet connection at least once every 30 days to validate the license. If the console stays offline longer than that, the games simply will not launch until you reconnect. This change does not affect any titles already in your library. Setting a console as your primary system also will not bypass the monthly check-in.

@marcsh @ZPostFacto @davepl1968 I've used Perforce only a small amount but from what I've seen it's extremely slow at simple updates... but it could have been a server issue (on each of the 3 servers for different projects/groups I've used). I know Git w/ LFS can be a pain but I'd pick that over Perforce.

Subversion, which sucked. But it worked for long enough to get work done, until you moved the plant in your office or turned on a fluorescent lamp.

@cybereality @nervencid @LundukeJournal @EFF @linuxfoundation also kinda missed the stop deleting games movement, other excessive online requirements/subscriptions for software/hardware, and like you mentioned the digital ID push (age verification etc). Maybe crypto KYC too?

The part they're largely missing is once mostly open platforms are starting to lock down (require a login to install or get in the way of non-approved software etc)...
