There is literally no reason for Rhaenyra to deny Corlys's pleadings, given that Joffrey is the heir to the Iron Throne, unless she is planning to appoint Baela or Rhaena as the heir to Driftmark. But that is not the case. It's a perfect example of bad writing.

i don't get the showrunners obsession with ruining all the dynamics between rhaenyra and her family. rhaenys spouts some bullshit about how she needs to seek peace with alicent—and that the war didn't start with the usurpation or something like that i don't even remember—daemon +

It looks like instead of Alicent saying, 'Bastard blood shed at war,' we will see Corlys giving a lecture on bastard children.
In the book, however, Rhaenyra legtimized Addam/Alyn, appointed Addam the heir to Driftmark bypassing Joffrey even when Jace was alive.

Changing things that were vague in the book Fire & Blood is one thing, but changing public events and established facts is another. Rhaenyra legitimized Addam and Alyn Velaryon, making Addam the heir. This was a fact in the book, not a rumor.
