Dennis Ritchie created C in the early 1970s without Google, Stack Overflow, GitHub, or any AI ( Claude, Cursor, Codex) assistant.
- No VC funding.
- No viral launch.
- No TED talk.
- Just two engineers at Bell Labs. A terminal. And a problem to solve.
He built a language that fit in kilobytes.
50 years later, it runs everything.
Linux kernel. Windows. macOS.
Every iPhone. Every Android.
NASA’s deep space probes.
The International Space Station.
> Python borrowed from it.
> Java borrowed from it.
> JavaScript borrowed from it.
If you have ever written a single line of code in any language, you did it in Dennis Ritchie’s shadow.
He died in 2011.
The same week as Steve Jobs.
Jobs got the front pages.
Ritchie got silence.
This Legend deserves to be celebrated.

@Om_Codes_ What’s funny is that he’ll go shop at the Apple Store and employees won’t recognize him.
He’ll ask to use his employee discount and take out his card with his employee number on it, which is the number 1.
They get confused, thinking he’s playing a prank on them. He loves it.

- Meet Steve Wozniak
- Co-founder of Apple with Steve Jobs
- Designed and built the Apple I almost entirely by himself
- Built the Apple II, one of the first successful personal computers
- Wrote the BASIC language for Apple II himself
- Designed the legendary Disk II, which shocked engineers with its efficiency
- His hardware and code became known as “engineering art”
- Donated millions to education and student tech programs
- Preferred engineering over business leadership
One of the greatest hardware hackers in computing history 🐐

The length of your DNA can stretch from the sun to Pluto and back 17 times. The human body contains about 37 trillion cells with 23 DNA molecules encased within each of them. So if you were to uncoil all of the human cells and lay them out end-to-end, a row would reach up to 34 billion miles.

My company uses managed print with HP, printers are locked down, etc.
Had to coordinate a printer delivery this morning and the new printers we’re receiving have the toner cartridges locked by default so they have to be at or below 10% threshold to be “ejected” and allowed to be swapped*. HP clearly has 0 awareness how often these things just fail and have to be changed before they get that low.
I just had a great time at lunch with coworkers discussing HP’s “toner police” role and how it would be hysterical to have someone roaming our halls like this is Nintendo’s Splatoon just shooting toner at people who dare try to touch their toner replacement too early.
*yes I had that policy removed from the printer I was dealing with because that’s fucking ridiculous

@ID_AA_Carmack 180 degree shutter rule calls for a shutter speed denominator that’s twice the framerate, so 60 fps would be 1/120 second. It’s a much faster frame over 1/48 at 24, with less motion blur in the footage. Great for broadcast, not for immersion.
I shoot in 30 at 1/60 to compromise.
English

Is there any good reason for cameras to ever suggest 24 fps video? I tend to think that is almost always a poor choice, and users should have to go out of their way to select it.
If you are recording something that will be cut into an actual shown-in-a-theater movie, then yes, you need to shoot at 24 fps to match film standards, but nearly all video is actually going to be shown by YouTube and social media on 60 fps displays.
24 fps guarantees not just a low framerate, but an uneven one, as frames get presented in a 3/2 repeated cadence (or worse, a 4/2/2/2 repeat if it gets converted to 30 fps video somewhere along the way).
120 fps displays can show 24 fps video at a constant repeat rate of 5, but I would wager that less than 10% of the video seconds today are in software and hardware properly configured to do that, and you would still be better off with 30 (or 60) fps video.
There was a period where some video encoders or decoders could only just barely do 4k at 24 fps and couldn’t manage 30, but I don’t think that is common today.
