@GreyAlien was a "hit" always the goal or just a side effect? i suspect your non-hits were a sustainable business otherwise you probably wouldn't have made 16 of them!

6% of the 17 games we made were hit games and that is basically only our most recent game, Forbidden Solitaire. We made them linearly over 21 years, so you can’t assume this % is your chance of making a hit game especially if it’s your first game.

@capncleaver Yep today is very different.

@GreyAlien It's good to set expectations for devs: ship for love and to manifest art, profit or fame is unlikely. I have a similar 'hit' rate of ~1, but it's skewed by lucky timing. Games launched in 2003 on web, 2011 steam or 2014 mobile are poor guidance for today.

@GreyAlien Yeah, I released my first game recently and knew from the start it wouldn't be a hit. I may never have one either, but as long as I'm passionate about making games, I'll keep making them!

I’ve got 24 issues of the new Zzap64 in those binders. Loved that mag back in the 1980s and still do!
