@deepfraid Yeah, esp with Black America there is a lot of subtext in communication. Her tone and mannerisms may be seen as combative or like mocking, but it’s deeper and conveys other subtleties.
other dynamics are at play here, they are from two VERY diff generations of Black politics.

@xenol8lia @misanderist I especially remember a video of this girl saying that everyone's a hoe, but when the interviewer asked her "so your mom is too?" she said "no but yours is". I think that kind of reflects how contradictory and non-feminist the movement is and they subconsciously know it... so sad

@oldbcc Definitely. Learning another language highlights subtext even more as it's more than just words and I'd argue, even more about culture. A lot of misunderstandings stems from it, I've seen a lot of people thinking italians are arguing when they're just talking normally.-

First things out his mouth:
“Are you a slut” and he stresses the word
“How old are you” infantilizing, as if she is too young to be informed or knowledgeable
His whole approach is to discredit

@deepfraid There’s a lot of shock factor to her delivery but there is also a context because in Black America we all know who this interviewer is… and he was met with contempt and trolling because he is actually a right wing troll who goes out to propagandize and harass women and lgbtq+

Even as an adult in that time American I didn’t know she was actually a prominent voice in the fem community.

@deepfraid This is such an unexpected response, and so appreciated cuz I literally chose to put it on my own page cuz I assumed incorrectly it would be met with more argument.
Even when I rewatched it, there were many powerful and clear msgs I forgot.

@deepfraid @xenol8lia @misanderist Wow. sad you missed the point COMPLETELY. She was not insulting his mother or contradictory to feminism. Her argument was basically showing him those labels mean nothing, and that the idea of “slut shaming” is arbitrary.
You were young then but you aren’t now think critically.

i believe it was 2-3 years ago some young woman said something about millennials telling girls hooking up with men was empowering to which i replied "nobody told you to do that" and they tried to eat me up but i'm right
