@oldbcc -Also aging I think has a part in understanding. After a lot of time trying to fight against injustice it's only normal to get frustrated, I don't blame her. Especially because she's Black and has to battle not only misogyny but racism everyday.

@deepfraid Yeah, esp with Black America there is a lot of subtext in communication. Her tone and mannerisms may be seen as combative or like mocking, but it’s deeper and conveys other subtleties. other dynamics are at play here, they are from two VERY diff generations of Black politics.

Running this back cuz the Millennial feminist message was always clear… it’s sad to see a young generation being as reductive and obtuse as Jessie.

@xenol8lia @misanderist I especially remember a video of this girl saying that everyone's a hoe, but when the interviewer asked her "so your mom is too?" she said "no but yours is". I think that kind of reflects how contradictory and non-feminist the movement is and they subconsciously know it... so sad

@oldbcc -I feel like i've come to understand this particulars more detaching myself from textbooks and reaching for more day-to-day aspects. Looking at it now it just seems like she's trying to get her point across despite being ridiculed by that bigot.-

@oldbcc Definitely. Learning another language highlights subtext even more as it's more than just words and I'd argue, even more about culture. A lot of misunderstandings stems from it, I've seen a lot of people thinking italians are arguing when they're just talking normally.-

@oldbcc Yeah I saw. Back then I didn't think too much of it. It's fascinating how much growing up and educating yourself beyond regular sources of information and confronting yourself with people from a different background can change your perspective on things.

@deepfraid I’m sure you picked up on it, but even I forgot how rage bait his questions were. First things out his mouth: “Are you a slut” and he stresses the word “How old are you” infantilizing, as if she is too young to be informed or knowledgeable His whole approach is to discredit

@oldbcc Wow I would've never known. This type of harassment is also alive and well here in Italy. I've come to recognize this people but they seem to be everywhere, especially when it comes to manifestation against marginalized groups. It's truly tiring.

@deepfraid There’s a lot of shock factor to her delivery but there is also a context because in Black America we all know who this interviewer is… and he was met with contempt and trolling because he is actually a right wing troll who goes out to propagandize and harass women and lgbtq+

@oldbcc I don't know her name but she definitely is a prominent voice as it reached me and many more because I remember it being everywhere in feminist spaces. I hope she's doing well and keeps making her voice heard

@deepfraid Luckily I someone else posted this is the thread so I found it. Cuz it def is hard to find if you don’t know her name. And all your explanations make sense. & it’s ok. Even as an adult in that time American I didn’t know she was actually a prominent voice in the fem community.

@oldbcc thanks to you again! As I stated it's hard to have a conversation like this with two parts just talking and trying to understand. Most of the time you're met with ragebait or stuff like that. I firmly believe in listening to different perspectives and opinions.

@deepfraid This is such an unexpected response, and so appreciated cuz I literally chose to put it on my own page cuz I assumed incorrectly it would be met with more argument. Even when I rewatched it, there were many powerful and clear msgs I forgot. Thank you for being open to receive

"Millennial feminists pushed women to have mindless casual sex" and "gen Z feminists are prudes that need to get laid" are both blatantly misogynistic arguments, y'all need to do better and take a pause when you start acting like incel losers towards feminists you disagree with

@deepfraid @xenol8lia @misanderist Wow. sad you missed the point COMPLETELY. She was not insulting his mother or contradictory to feminism. Her argument was basically showing him those labels mean nothing, and that the idea of “slut shaming” is arbitrary. You were young then but you aren’t now think critically.

@oldbcc adult woman. Again thank you, I value this type of interactions a lot, feminism is a movement that you never stop learning and having people like you that spend their time educating younger generations or just other women is precious. Have a good day ❤️6

@oldbcc thanks for posting the video, i was searching for it and i couldn't find it. As i said in the comment I only remembered the video. You're right, in the comment you left on the other post you said I was young when I first saw it, and it's kind of my fault for not trying harder to1

@oldbcc but I know how frustrating trying to make a point is, especially because It's hard to find people who are willing to listen to you and not be stuck in their own interpretation. But It's mostly my fault for not researching for video more and looking at it with the eyes of an 5

@oldbcc I feel like I have to say sorry to this girl for all the years I've misinterpreted her message. I now understand better, and damn I remembered it all wrong! I guess in the mind of a young teenager I interpreted the "my mom isn't" as defensive. 3
