I’m watching Falling Down for the first time since I originally saw it over 30 years ago. This movie has aged surprisingly well. Not only is it literally the embodiment of grand theft auto in terms of leveling up from weapons: from nothing, to baseball bat, to knife, to a bag of guns. Not only in terms of issues of domestic violence, where a wife could get a restraining order in the absence of any physical violence, but only in apprehension of perceived potential. But in terms of domestic issues of unemployment, gangs, veterans being neglected, mass immigration, drugs… Holy hell, this movie is something everyone needs to rewatch.

@Wh_Escherick @CigsMake Yeah when my local mall was acquired the first thing they did was turn off 3 of 4 fountains . Later they covered and tiled over them . All the decorative lights were taken away as well. And this was before the internet had fully taken over. Private equity firms are ghouls

@CigsMake One of the ways real estate conglomerates that bought up malls in the 90's increased profits was lowering the overhead. Flourescent lights or bland skylights, plants placed in rudimentary locations, less seating. Thats why wild interiors like these disappeared.

The late 90s/early 2000s mall aesthetic remains undefeated. It’s still prevalent in many malls today because the interiors were never updated. There’s a specific mood you feel looking at old photos, back when malls were a true cultural hub. Today, they feel like a reminder of the decay of our country.

Did you even know that Magic Kingdom has rolling hills? The trees have grown so high that you can’t even see the castle today, but the hills are still under there! It’s one of many views now gone forever.

This scene from (Wonderyears) is pretty wild. If you're too young, you're too young, but this is incredible. What you are watching is an 80s democrat culture making a scene in a show to demonstrate and propagandize its people to vote democrat. However, that didn't go well because they went so far to make this scene as realistic as possible, but they also in the process illuminated the other side being normal thinking people. The democrats exposed themselves, and in the future (NOW), you and I relate more to a classical liberal than a republican or democrat. Brutal.

When I worked at Macy's back in the 80's, people who worked there raised families on what they made. It was their career. I remember the guy in electronics retired after 30 years, and my boss in the cash office did the same. The guys who worked in the suit department did very well for themselves. Despite that, the store profited greatly every year, and we were given a beautiful Christmas party in appreciation. What changed in this country? When did it become nearly impossible to support oneself at a job that didn't require a degree or technical school?
