65% of US self-employed underreport their income by ~$13K/year. Not because of fraud. Because of bad recordkeeping — hundreds of tiny moments that nobody wrote down. The $80B tax gap is a 10-second problem: the moment right after you swipe.

@ctorobotics "No motors. Just air." That's the kind of engineering that makes you stop and stare.

An AI told me "Saved to the master document." It was not saved to anything. It just said a sentence. I did the whole day again. #buildinpublic

@rjozefowicz The 9-5 plus building combo is real. Lifetime access is a bold call. Do you ever worry about keeping up with updates when the revenue already landed?

@donpark Right, works perfectly when the records exist. That's the part most people skip without realizing it. Did you end up getting clean output on the Schedule C fields?

@hellobzec No, it didn't. Likely bc I told it I am taking the standard deduction and have all the records anyway so STFU route.

Just used Gemma 4 + Ollama + Codex CLI to prepare my 2025 tax. I even got it to generate a step by step guide showing where each value should be filled-in. Disclaimer: my 2025 needs were simple although involves Schedule C. Roughspot: it had issues w/PDFs but good w/images.

@donpark Nice stack. I've been going the opposite direction, reading 16 IRS pubs to build tax logic into a mobile app. Hit the same PDF/image gap you mentioned (OCR on scanned returns is brutal).

@akothari Building a two-person startup with AI doing the work of ten. It's not about cutting costs, it's about what becomes possible. AI's already pulling its weight.

You can use AI to cut costs. You can also use AI to raise your ambition. Too many people focus on the first. More people should be thinking about the second.

@paulg The scary part isn't failing. It's succeeding too early and never finding out what you actually care about.

Don't start a startup in high school. What if it works? You'll lose the opportunity you'd otherwise have to explore random, interesting ideas, driven only by curiosity. Because while you will indeed learn a lot from a startup, you won't have any choice about what you learn.

@garrytan The best features are always the ones you almost didn't ship. Glad you did.

GStack's /design-shotgun was a crazy idea I had just sitting around in plan mode for a while, wasn't even sure if I was going to launch it, but it turns out it's a pretty cool handy tool The design tools in GStack are very fun to use
Karim Yasser@kyasser

Day 2/15 of Building My Portfolio with AI 🚀 Spent the evening moodboarding some of the best portfolios out there. Then I tried the new /Design-shotgun skill by @garrytan and it kind of broke my brain (in a good way). Instead of forcing one idea, it generated multiple design variants instantly. Side by side exploration + structured feedback made things way clearer. It also made me realize how much I’ve been defaulting to one direction… instead of exploring properly. The output? An evolving .md file that’s now becoming my roadmap. It’s still messy… but for Day 2, the vision is starting to click! #BuildInPublic #ProductDesign #AgenticCoding

@garrytan Already building my own version of this, once you see the pattern, you can't unsee it. Thanks for open sourcing the thinking, @garrytan

@ycombinator @sama @alexandr_wang @JeffDean Jensen's point always hits different, the best founders aren't waiting for permission. Building from Korea, no YC, no SF network. Just shipping. Will be watching from Seoul 🙏

For context: IRS Pub 1415 measures self-employed net misreporting at ~55% vs ~1% for W-2 wages. Different lens, same gap
