Looks like the idea was you face Malenia as Miquella's intermediary protector. He blesses her for phase 2. Then after both are defeated, we get a vision of how it all started, plus Miquella pleading we carry on his wish. Same idea as the DLC post-Consort Radahn fight.

from the cut dialogue it seems that we go into the haligtree and the quest we're on leads us to the husk of miquella in the roots where malenia believes we're here to bleed it dry of the last bit of dew it had, then miquella comes in and blesses malenia (abundance to her decay)

my only concern with this movie is how they're gonna handle the sky, Elden Ring has super scenic and colorful skyboxes basically everywhere except for the Mountaintops of the Giants and if they don't nail that its not gonna work as well.
