The Chariots of the Lord: A Biblical Theology of Interdimensional Beings and Their Connection to Modern UFO Phenomena
Abstract
This paper examines the hypothesis that unidentified aerial phenomena described in contemporary culture correspond to the same class of beings described throughout Scripture—specifically, angelic and demonic entities operating from a spiritual dimension that occasionally intersects with physical reality. By analyzing key biblical passages including Genesis 6, Job 38, 2 Kings 6, Ezekiel 1, and Daniel 10, this paper demonstrates that the Bible presents a consistent worldview of beings that are not extraterrestrial in the space-traveling sense, but rather extradimensional—spiritual entities capable of materializing within physical space while originating from an unseen realm. Special attention is given to the Sons of God in Genesis 6, whose union with human women produced the Nephilim, and the territorial spiritual warfare depicted in Daniel 10, which suggests these beings operate within spatial and temporal constraints despite their supernatural nature.
Introduction: The Convergence of Ancient Text and Modern Phenomenon
In January 2024, United States Congressman Eric Burlison made a striking statement on "That UFO Podcast": when he uses the term "angels," he said, "to me, it's synonymous with an extradimensional being." He further argued that "when you start talking about things in that nature, that they're extradimensional, well, in a lot of different scriptures, including the Bible, and others, that's really the way that you describe messengers of God" . This modern political figure, having attended classified briefings on UFOs, found that nothing he learned changed his worldview because his biblical understanding already accounted for such phenomena.
This perspective is not novel. As Congressman Tim Burchett noted in 2021, "UFOs were in the Bible. Read Ezekiel, it talks about the wheel flying around" . The question before us is not whether such beings exist, but rather how to properly identify them within the biblical worldview and what their activities reveal about the nature of reality.
Chapter 1: The Sons of God and the Nephilim - A Pre-Flood Incursion
1.1 The Text of Genesis 6:1-4
The foundational passage for understanding the intersection of spiritual and physical realms appears in the antediluvian period:
"Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. Then the Lord said, 'My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.' The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown" (Genesis 6:1-4, NASB).
1.2 Identifying the "Sons of God"
Let's find the identity of the "sons of God" (bene ha'elohim):
The sons of God were fallen angels who cohabited with human women
The angelic view finds strongest support from both internal and external evidence. The phrase "sons of God" (bene 'elohim) appears elsewhere in the Old Testament consistently referring to angelic beings. In Job 1:6 and 2:1, the "sons of God" present themselves before Yahweh—clearly a heavenly council scene. Most significantly, Job 38:7 places the "sons of God" at creation itself: "When the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy." 👇
