@app_settings @OutofGalaxyy It was one of the times Apple was peak. 11 specifically had a great camera upgrade and new design. Other peaks include the 13 series (camera + storage), 15 series (design + USBC + camera), and 17 series (design), in my opinion.

@privatetalky With bigger size came significantly more capability. Portrait mode, 2x zoom, RAW capability (with 3rd party apps), and photographic styles were not possible on older single camera iPhones, but are now.

Account deletion in 2026: some apps bury it behind a support email. Some only show it in the app, not the web. A few don't offer it at all. This should not be a scavenger hunt in 2026.

@privatetalky In 2016, one single USB-C port was limiting since it wasn't common at the time. Now in 2026, even with a measly 2 USB-C ports, there is no limitation. Interesting to see the headphone jack stuck around when all other ports were removed.

@ParkerOrtolani You can keep podcasts up to date on the iPod with syncing, but it needs you to be proactive about what podcast episodes you want. Passively keeping up with a podcast works on a phone with background refresh and notifications, but not an iPod.

this is something like what I'd like to see for the iPad mini 8 thinner and lighter design, closer to the current iPad Pro more rounded body, similar to the current iPhones, including the display to match the iPad Pro better Put an A19 Pro (binned), 256GB base and ProMotion in that thing and GIMME. Even if it raises the price to $699

@jglypt I think it's more useful to mention your position rather than age. Saying you're a high school student to Claude is more useful than saying you are 17 years old, and it keeps your age ambiguous. Still, under-18s are not allowed according to TOS.

interesting.. a few of my irl friends have had their claude/anthropic accounts revoked for mentioning to claude that they are under 18? makes me nervous to use it for school stuff now... :P (I've not said my age, but implied)

@WorkaholicDavid Realistically, I would try to back up the phone as fast as possible, then shut it down. It's probably due to battery swelling, which can get bad fast. Then take it in to repair.

i fucking love the turf war between openai and anthropic right now > anthropic: "we're releasing opus 4.7, our best..." > openai: "no FUCK you we're releasing super codex, automates ur entire life" > anthropic: "we built mythos but we can't release it because it’s dang.." > openai: "fuck you again we're launching Spud AND we have enough compute to serve it" feels like christmas. siblings are fighting but im just happy to see them these two companies have shipped 20+ products and features in the last 3 weeks.

@privatetalky The MacBook Air was never big on ports, but it's interesting how we lost the SD card slot to the MacBook Pros. Ports changed as the direction of the Air changed from a premium product to the baseline MacBook.

macOS Tip 5/5: Use a password manager. Apple Passwords is a solid start, but it's Apple-only. Bitwarden works for free on everything. Your passwords should be with you everywhere, not just your Apple devices. bitwarden.com or brew install bitwarden

Gemini for macOS appears to support Liquid Glass! Also, when initially signing into the app, there is a security prompt warning you about only downloading the app from Google - smart! It's also only for Apple Silicon, helping with performance. Great app!

Spent a few minutes with the MacBook Neo. Looks like an Air at first glance. Soft rounded edges, hefty weight, sharp display, even bezels. The Apple logo is an outline etched in metal, not glossy. Then you remember it runs a phone chip. Feels nothing like one.

@TheGalox_ A prime example of form over function. Keycaps having corners makes them easier to type on. Circles have smaller touch targets. Looks fresh, but could result in a worse core experience of this laptop.
