@fesshole Not as much of an arsehole as the rip off mini dealers who try to extort money for replacement brake pads and discs that don't even need replaced.

Worked for an independent BMW/MINI retailer & if you ever had a full stop, after your name on a letter or invoice it wasn't a typo. It was an internal note that you were an arsehole.

@TheBMA UK grads must have priority and nothing else. IMGs are valuable and should fill the gaps, that's it.

A lack of training posts has led to spiralling competition ratios and a jobs crisis in the NHS. Something had to change. This emergency legislation for UK Graduate Prioritisation, is about restoring fairness, valuing NHS experience, and giving doctors hope again. @DocShivSharma, Deputy Chair UK Resident Doctor Committee, explains this win.

On this day in 2008, elbow released ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’. A Mercury Prize winner, and an album that found its way into a lot of people’s lives. Where were you when you first heard it?

@AliJaneMoore Unfortunately, many thousands have already been screened out before interview stage this year. So they remain in complete limbo until they can apply in October for next spring interview and August 2027 ST1 positions.

So the UK graduate prioritisation scheme will come into force in time for August starts for new specialty trainees (who are being interviewed now). Just wonder if its swift adoption signifies anything for the wider talks on residents' pay? Is there a potential deal coming?

@ollyscargill I also think they should immediately prioritise any ST1 level CTFellow / Fellow jobs for our grass, so they have more chance of getting a role to fill the gap from Aug 26 to Aug 27

@randompearlsof As well as those who did not apply/have taken jobs abroad under the impression the competition ratios would continue to be so high.

Great news. More doctors applying for roles starting in August will now be able to remain in the UK, rather than moving to Australia. It makes no sense for us to invest in doctors only for them to have to leave the country else face unemployment.

@DHSCgovuk This should be applied and priority also put in place immediately for all ST1 level CTFellow of Fellow positions to allow our FY2s who were screened out of ST1 interviews this year to continue employment until next round of applications.

@GoodwinMJ Our FY2s are being royally screwed over, being screened out of Specialist Training posts that should be their next step for progression...half of them ending up unemployed with others forced to leave the country while IMGs get the posts. It's a scandal

Astonishing stat from Dr Meirion Thomas: "The last time the UK trained more doctors than it imported was 2016. Last year, we registered 9,285 UK-trained doctors while importing 17,000 from outside Europe & another 2,400 from across Europe". Bonkers. Train British kids first.

It’s always hard to pinpoint exact release dates for compilation albums. But, I think “Shine 4” was released 30 years ago today. What’s the best track from it? I’m going with “Sandstorm” by Cast, but it’s a very strong selection, maybe the best Shine album?

@JMPSimor It's in the same vein as Endowment mortgages, PPI or other financial mis-selling in my opinion. I know not regulated in the same way, but equally as underhand and only comes to light years later.

@premnsikka Yet encouraging more and more people to go to university, essentially propping up a higher education industry failing because of past reliance on foreign students, and with huge numbers of graduates not able to find jobs their pseudo degrees are aimed at. It's a scam, another one

Education Secretary defends freezing the repayment threshold for student loans in England. Ridiculous. Graduates pay tax+repayment at marginal rate of 37%, higher than capital gains tax rate for the super rich. Abolish uni fees. Write-off debt. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@toadmeister We need to support UK jobs and our security regardless. Energy prices are inflated because of govt policy. The life of our Oil and Gas industry is nothing to do with geology, it's current policy, which must change to ensure our economy improves and then tax take will increase too

@GitGrumpygit @JohnSwinney There are different assessment/interview processes, some with practical OSCE style stations. My daughter managed to get offers for four Unis here... But after 8 years of med school and Foundation training can't get a specialist training post and will be unemployed (what a waste)

Tell me @JohnSwinney why was my nephew a straight A student denied a place in Scottish universities to study medicine so ended up going south of the border to study at Oxford ? He tells me several Scottish students in there also denied places here in Scotland… I do wonder how many medical students ended up south of border ?
John Swinney@JohnSwinney

While Labour and Tories attempt to defend the indefensibly high student debt in England, Scottish students get free tuition thanks to the SNP. For as long as we’re in government, Scottish undergraduate students will pay no fees. Vote SNP to protect free university tuition.

@JohnSwinney I'd just like to see Scottish Medical Graduates who have completed FY2 training get prioritised for Specialist Training jobs in Scotland. We have paid for their University tuition, we have paid for their embedment in NHS via 2 Years further training and then dump them wtaf

I know frustrating the 8am rush for a GP appointment can be. That’s why we’re opening 16 new GP walk-in clinics across Scotland, open 7 days a week, 12-8pm - and investing to recruit more doctors. I will leave no stone unturned to make sure the NHS always works for you.

@Jac_critter @PeterStefanovi2 Yes, I agree lots of our young people are finding it increasingly difficult to find work. I have a personal interest in the doctors situation and it is dire. There is only one employer, the NHS and many are not finding jobs due to high levels of IMGs displacing them.
