I fear this is going to upset people, but a genuine question. Why, 11 years after same-sex marriage, 20 years after civil partnerships and 58 years after the legalisation of homosexual acts, is Pride such a big deal? I understand why people marched when there was still legal discrimination. But being gay is now surely just one among many legal sexual preferences. We don't hold marches to celebrate voyeurism or foot fetishism or whatever. I ask, by the way, as someone who supported the equalisation of the age of consent and civil partnerships long before my party came round to the idea. And I note that the big corporates who now make the celebration semi-compulsory were nowhere to be seen when it genuinely was a question of equal rights under the law.

@thackers1 @ExtinctionR The miners strike ended in 1985. These speeches were from 1988. Thatcher was removed from office in 1990. I’m not a fan of her at all but physics is physics. Scientific facts are scientific facts. She trained in chemistry and she clearly understood this reality.
