Buying a house can deliver a good boost to wealth but it can also keep you poor All depends on the price you pay of course relative to what you can afford And what interest rates do - good luck predicting that 30 years out Feel not many grasp this very simple concept today

@clairlemon Why as society it isnt a priority for people to be able to have the scope to raise their own children makes zero sense to me from a social and welfare perspective. And I say that as the son of a stay at home dad.

Another child care worker with a career of abuse spanning sixteen years. Police only received a tip-off from a *US company* that tracks the syncing of CSA material. Pre-verbal children should not be left alone with strange males. abc.net.au/news/2026-04-1…

@RizviAbul It looks to me like he’s comparing NPLT to the data series of NLPT only, which is surely a leading indicator of the trend at least? Can you explain the correct use of NLPT data? It must have a purpose, else why would it exist?

ABS has advised people to be careful with NPLT data (which this guy knowingly continues to ignore). The quarter with the biggest discrepancy between NPLT & net migration is the March quarter. In March Q 2025, net migration was 58% of NPLT.

Net long term and permanent arrivals for the month of February came in at 96.1k, the third highest figure on record for a February. This is down 15.6k vs last year (-14.0%) and up by 21.7k vs 2019 (+29.3%).

Being in your early 40s is weird, man. People around your age are in every stage of life. You have people who are grandparents. You have people who have newborns. You have people dating 25-year-olds. You have people celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary. Some of them look 60, and some of them look 30. All the bases are covered when you are in your early 40s.

But what about the "Mum and Dad" investors!? The humble mum and dad investors that thought the government effectively insured them against any financial risk and that they only bought into the property market investment vehicle because they were assured that this was a risk free way to grow their wealth without there ever being any chance of downside. What about those poor people that believed in their heart of hearts that aus property carries no financial risk?

The framing of the CGT debate around landlords shows how insanely skewed capital allocation is in Australia. Hoooms aren’t the only asset class you chumps.

@SpachusAus @Patricksalmon20 I’m an import manager. I’ve received 2 increases in 2 days directly linked to oil price. 10% and 16% ! It was high pre war yes, but this is the tsunami coming behind the king tide.

"Pope Clement VII is weak on banditry in the Papal States and is a foot stool for the Ottoman Sultans. I don't want a Pope that is okay with the Ottomans having great bombard cannons. He is only Pope because of me, because the continental powers thought I would be easier to deal with." Trump as Henry VIII...

"They're gaslighting us." Scott not pulling his punches one bit today and I'm all for it. Everyone who has done the homework knows the government are wilfully making the housing issue worse.
Scott Phillips@TMFScottP

They don't really care about housing affordability until they meaningfully reduce household formation, through population growth. They *know* everything else is just play-acting. Why? Not ideology (good or bad). Primary school level maths. They're gaslighting us. 7/7
