@Willmotts1856 we have been waiting weeks for our building’s front door to be fixed! It is a serious safety hazard: at times we are trapped inside the building; at others we cannot close the front door at all!

Teach standard English. Acknowledge its status, but at the same time challenge the ideology that put it there. Don’t put it on a pedestal. Recognise its role, but only as part of a diverse linguistic repertoire.

Disappointed to see this view from an English teacher. Not criticising the author, as I’m sure it comes from good intentions. But it’s a shame this misconception is so widespread. Nobody speaks in standard English and in full sentences, so why get kids to? tes.com/news/why-i-ins…
