Really excited to share a look at the fantasy/comedy pilot I've been working on! Can't wait for you all to meet Fred and his family, who may or may not have made it entirely into this poster. #IndieAnimationDay

@TheMG3D Even Tech Bros don't actually want this--we already see it with AI generated music. That level of creation creates a bunch of users who *only* consume their own product. It just makes vanity slop. They'd love for people to pay to see their creation but would never for anyone else

Thought of a really snarky April Fools joke but then remembered I don't really like April Fools, so I guess skip it.

@ratparty_ Keep applying; keep networking. This is a historically weird time (for a lot of reasons!), but I think when things pick up they're gonna pick up a lot.

@Paladinoffyr @FountainCartoon Off of like 4 voice samples? Nah. But it is probably more about fishing for publicity than looking for genuinely fresh talent.

@G6184970268 @FountainCartoon That is sorta what's happened with the kids. My son *hates* this noise and he came to that opinion before I even talked to him about it. His friends seem to all be similar. Did they get that opinion from YouTubers? Probably, but it's been engrained quickly and near unanimously.

@will_bits @FountainCartoon The normies by and large dont like slop. A lot of them didnt come to the conclusion on their own. The right celebrity or the right influencer came around and said "Ai sucks." Which, to be fair, I'll take it. I wish they would look into why they dont like it. But I'll take what I

@Shira_Hedgie @artsyomni One big salary difference is US Healthcare. If you run a production here the employer has to contribute to our insurance. Overseas most governments cover us. So even if I make the exact same take home pay as a Canadian or French animator, I’m something like 30% more expensive.

@artsyomni I wonder if the salaree difference plays a huge part too. The studio is located in Paris, but cost of life and rent is different than where most biggest studios are

Can anyone in the animation industry elucidate how Illumination's low-cost model materially affects the end product compared to other studios? When I see the Mario Movie, it doesn't strike me as a cheap-looking movie.

@artsyomni I think it’s mostly whether you can recognize story issues earlier in the process. The scripting phase is the best but storyboarding is important. Too many celebrity-helmed projects can’t visualize problems until really late in the animation process and it causes problems.

@will_bits So perhaps illumination's tendency to have less refined storytelling is a byproduct of being unwilling to rework large parts of a story mid-production because it would entail scrapping a lot of work and paying more money to do new animation?

@rez_uk @LoserofAllCycle @rdd147 Can you narrow those margins down to 5% of their current spend, while also exponentially scaling up to the next order of magnitude of quality (since current models are also failing to deliver on promises)? Spoilers: nah

@LoserofAllCycle @rdd147 Ai is clearly now in the basket of consumers monthly purchases (similar to storage subs) the question is will competition drive down margins

@pa_wa93 @CantEverDie For Disney's $1 Billion investment you could have enough of those JJK episodes that it'd be longer than the entire run of One Piece.

@will_bits @CantEverDie New season of Jujutsu Kaisen costed around $600k per episode (if remember correctly), so we could have everyday animation of basically highest quality.

@MrEwanMorrison It's wild to me how quickly every industry went "oh wow, yeah, we better replace our entire system with this new, unproven one." I get experimenting with it. Trying it out is extremely rational. Throwing the baby out with the bathwater immediately was insane.

@Danny8bit @MagicHandz People should take more risks. Part of the problem is that there's no low or medium entry points in today's market--everything has to be a quarter-billion-dollar blockbuster and no one is getting a first time shake at that. Streaming has left very little room for newcomers.

@will_bits @MagicHandz oh absolutely. there needs to be balance. I just feel like there just very much isn’t anymore feels like the single “toe” is on original stuff, while the other 9 are fully entrenched in just popular pre-established big IPs lol
