The anti-ai artist argument essentially boils down to this: I suffered to learn how to do this so everyone else must suffer in the exact same way as me no shortcuts allowed. And fuck you if you disagree with me. Also you can use a little Adobe Generative Fill as a treat.

@TheThriftyDev @txbeergoddess It’s a guessing machine. Guessing is the core of how they funxtion. You can give it more data and you can make it guess faster but it will never stop hallucinating unless you change their fundamental methodology.

I don’t even understand how this is remotely possible since AI has been proven over and over again to hallucinate, plagiarize, make shit up, lie and gaslight. Like, what is it actually doing?

@cachavaa Man. For the longest time my dream was pitching with CN specifically. But sometimes I wonder if never getting that shot was a blessing in disguise.

When I was 27, Cartoon Network picked up my show idea for development. Over 5 years, they tasked me & my writing partner w/building out the show into an all-ages series for HBO Max, which was new at the time. We outlined 3 full seasons complete w/designs, & then they shelved it.

"Good enough" outputs are great for tech demos but won't ever have the control needed for those corporate environments; the instant they run way overbudget trying, those feet are gonna get real cold real quick. It's great news short term for us retakes folks though.

Might as well run my keyframes through an interpolation algorithm and put blurry goggles on your face. I dunno I feel like we're having a nicely nuanced conversation, though the character limit is annoying.

@will_bits @Flayed_Banana @GPrime85 I agree that AI makes shit films. And it likely always will. But I think there's places that make sense for it. My initial point was that AI could make 2DA feature films cost-competitive again by removing the need for in-betweener sweatshops. Nuance is impossible on this site

@Flayed_Banana @GPrime85 @ninjask123 At this point it's all cover for outsourcing or grifting. As far as I can tell this whole bubble is gonna pop, and the true believers are gonna find themselves with no access to these tools, either because they go away or the token cost prices them out.

Seemed unlikely then, seems like even more of a pipe dream now. This tech just isn't there and AI Winter is nigh.

@will_bits @Flayed_Banana @GPrime85 What Im saying is even with a market crash and increased token price, youd still have large national+ companies paying in. And eventually it would lead to reintroducing end user consumption. So artists will be expected to use AI tools, its a matter of 3 years or 8 years time.

@ninjask123 @Flayed_Banana @GPrime85 No new models are even worse; the inherit problems (hallucination especially) don't go away, and they're all even more expensive for diminishing returns. These aren't spikes from building infrastructure, they're all running at a loss even ignoring the init. investments.

Even if we dont assume new models enter the market afterwards, and even if the token cost increases, it would be a temporary spike like the RAM prices. Eventually enough exchanges would happen to get tokens back to prices acceptible to users.

@ninjask123 @Flayed_Banana @GPrime85 Because if that market goes away no one is going to subsidize it anymore. These cheap, cheap "magic" outputs are running on absurd amounts of VC burn. With the market collapsing, you're paying 100% of the token cost instead of the 5% or whatever they're using now.

@will_bits @Flayed_Banana @GPrime85 So why do you think that AI users will be priced out of the market? If anything, it seems like its just gonna be cheaper over time, even if, lets say, the AI market lost 75% value overnight.

@ninjask123 @Flayed_Banana @GPrime85 Websites are still using fiber infrastructure decades after the companies that installed them collapsed. Data centers keep getting exponentially more expensive, not cheaper, and they go obsolete after ~2 years. I've heard all the arguments; and I've heard enough.

@will_bits @GPrime85 @ninjask123 I am not a huge fan of AI, truly. I loathe the AI slop on this platform and others, but that doesn't mean it can't have a place somewhere. It's going to happen if we like it or not. If artist don't embrace it, others will

"200 bucks per second (of animation) and you wonder why everyone is abandoning 'artists' in favor of AI" Hand drawn animation is 8-12 frames per second. Let's average it to 10. That's 20 bucks per drawing, in color, plus backgrounds, plus thumbnails, plus extra time if work needs to be redone or tweaked. Also complexity is exponential, so more characters per scene means more work per frame, x10 per second. If it takes more time than estimated, the artist doesn't earn get overtime. They lose money. Imagine going to work this Tuesday and your boss says "You expect me to PAY you? I could just have a machine do your job." Would you still get up at 6am go to work? Do you have a job? Do you get paid? So do artists. So, 200 bucks per second is more than fair. In fact, it's a steal. If you want quality, you have to buy it like everything else. If you want to pay nothing, all you get will be worthless slop.
