"Rupert Lowe was a Conservative" is something I continue to hear.
It's true, and here's the major difference:
Rupert Lowe was a member of the Conservative Party until the early 1990s, leaving over opposition to the Maastricht Treaty and the direction of European integration.
He publicly rescinded his membership after becoming strongly Eurosceptic.
In 1997, he stood as a parliamentary candidate for James Goldsmith’s Referendum Party, which was explicitly anti-EU... a direct break from the Conservatives.
He has been consistent with his principles ever since, keeping his distance, fighting against the EU and for the British people.
So yes Rupert Lowe was a Conservative, he also left when it was right to do so. His credibility is off the charts. So don't bother.
