I just listened to a podcast where somebody described spending $400 and twenty hours of their time rebuilding what is probably a five dollar a month commonly available SaaS product as a victory

@nateberkopec The math only looks dumb if the rebuild was the goal. Sometimes the $5 SaaS is a hostage: you're paying to remove a dependency, own the data, or learn the domain. The mistake isn't building it, it's not being honest about which of those you were actually buying.
