Here's the original video, which looks like it's actual speed. I used two markers and consistently measured it. It took 75 frames in a 30 FPS video to travel 212.63 ft equating to 57.9 MPH (probably 60). The incident occurred in August of 2025. These are just facts. Yes the driver should have intervened sooner. Yes, FSD was approaching way too fast.

I normally don't bother armchair quarterbacking these situations. But watching the Tesla Stans come into the comments is funny. Elon said Autopilot (FSD?) was disengaged 4s before the impact which if you watch the video looks like it was going way too fast at that point. Am I missing something?

My hunch of what happened here is the truck thought its as on the highway below which is "next" to it. Therefor it didn't anticipate the turn.

@ChadMoran Autopilot has now been confirmed as disengaged ~4 seconds before impact. Everyone that drives a Tesla knows the vehicle would start to decelerate immediately and especially up an incline unless the throttle was pressed.

@ChadMoran Does FSD start then breaking off you turn the steering wheel? Or does it keep cruise set speed? They have varied over the years the behavior.

Chad - Houston driver here, know exactly where that spot is. My FSD struggles with the non-conventional nature of the elevated HOV exit/entrances, especially if through traffic is not suppose to go over the elevated part. FSD will, in error, opt to take the “through” path, in error, resulting in freeway speeds (consistent with the video) as well as the curbs designed to funnel traffic off the HOV system, which is what the driver was trying to dodge as she approached the turnoff.

212.63/75 =2.835 feet per frame. 30fps and 4s means 2.835x120 =340.2 feet. Cybertruck braking distance 60mph to 0 is 120 feet. Distance traveled at 60mph per second = 88 ft. She could have waited 2 full seconds = 176ft, hit the breaks = 120 ft more = 296 ft, and still had 44ft left.

@ChadMoran Great video for the awareness alone. Question I have about FSD is there was a speed sign of 15 mph well before the disengagement and the turn. If the logs do not show FSD starting to decrease speed to honor the speed sign that would be a issue no? Can't wait to see the data.

So person disengages the FSD 4 seconds before the impact. Makes no attempt to slow down. Makes little to no attempt to turn. Clearly FSDs fault? Not to mention you set the speed of your own FSD as well as the modes. You could turn it down to standard or the safety setting that babies it. Would make it much more attentive to braking earlier and turning softer. This feels like they had it on hurry. It was starting to apply regen to turn, they panicked, turned off FSD, then froze. End of it, drivers fault. Without question lol. Going 60 there if you disengage FSD and slam the brakes you WILL have enough time to at least, bare minimum, make that turn without smacking the wall.

From Tesla, we know the driver disengaged 4s before the crash. In this video, the crash happens at 0:26, meaning the driver disengaged at 0:22, well before the curve started. The driver manually maintained speed with foot on the accelerator, and drove into the barrier instead of braking and turning right. There is nothing to indicate that FSD did anything wrong here, given that the driver disengaged it at 0:22 in your video.
