Around 2013, on Akerele Street of Surulere (Abe Igi), an attack was carried out by the Bird Perchers against members of the Aquatic Explorers confraternity. On that day, two brothers who belonged to the Aquatic Explorers were killed under the orders of a high-ranking leader of the Bird Perchers (name withheld). In response, the Aquatic Explorers swore an oath of revenge, vow to send at least fifty members of Bird Perchers to their gr*ve. The conflict got heated, in same year, a man known as KP, mostly regarded in the community as a man with the generous heart, lost his life. Despite his reputation, KP was a member of the Bird Perchers and was killed at Shitta Roundabout, this further deepen the cycle of retaliation. Years later, in 2022, just months before the general elections, tensions diffused up again. A member of the Bird Perchers (name withheld) stormed Omobola Street in Lawanson, armed with a r!fle, and opened fire on suspected members of the Aquatic Explorers. One person was killed in the attack, while several others were injured. The prime actors of this attack came from the Shitta area and fled the scene immediately. He was also involved in a previous tragic incident in Shitta, where a firearm he handled accidentally discharged, killing an innocent girl. This attack was believed to be retaliation for an earlier confrontation at Surulere Mall. On that day, members of the Aquatic Explorers had arrived in force, targeting a Bird Percher. Rewinding to around 2014, another major incident occurred at Adeniran Ogunsanya Mall. A prominent member of the Aquatic Explorers launched an attack on a well-known Bird Percher figure nicknamed “withheld.” he sustained a life-threatening injuries and was on the brink of d£ath before being flown to Germany for medical treatment with the support of an influential political figure in Surulere. A cycle of revenge never ends, it only changes victims, and behind the scenes, those in power often enable it. Political complicity continues to fuel and sustain cultism in Nigeria.
