I used to walk through these mountains drinking straight from the creeks. Thanks, feral horse lobby.

Piles & piles of horse shit & trampled alpine streams. This is not what a National Park should look like. ๐Ÿ™Please deliver a strong, clear @AuSenate report this Friday @SenatorGrogan @DavidPocock @sarahinthesen8 @DuniamJonathon ๐Ÿฆ˜๐ŸฆŽ๐Ÿธ ๐Ÿ“ธ: Mike Bremers, Gooandra Creek, Sept 2023

One aim of yesterdayโ€™s walk was to see if Scotlandโ€™s last relic of the previous winter persisted at Aonach Beag. It did, but only just. In a couple of daysโ€™ time, Scotland will be snow-free for the second consecutive year. This has *never* happened since records began (1700s).

Hi-Res Models are suggesting ski resort-level temperatures to exceed those record-breaking temps of yesterday. Here's the departure from '91-20 climatological temps at resort level ~1500m ASL for next Monday. +12ยฐC above normal. #heatwave #ausweather

Record September warmth in the Australian Alps today. Perisher Valleyโ€™s 18.0ยฐC was its highest Sept temp on record with data from 2 stations dating back to 1976. Falls Creekโ€™s 16.2ยฐC was also a Sept record by nearly 2ยฐC, with data back to 1990. More at: weatherzone.com.au/news/record-seโ€ฆ

Unprecedented times. Todayโ€™s visit to the Sphinx snow patch at Braeriach will be my last of 2023. It is now critically small and likely to vanish in the next few days. This will be the third consecutive disappearance and unheard of in the historical era (post 1750s). (1/3)

EC's SEA5 product with project seasonal DJF forecast of global SSTAs. The problem with ONLY looking at ENSO is that there's no scale to measure broadscale/global + anomalies that surpass the role of the equatorial heating/cooling phases in the Pac. Where do we go from here?

Bjรธrn Lomborg notes global area burned is decreasing, not increasing. We know this is because more forests are now crops; the forests themselves are burning far more often. He tried similar spin in 2020 using my research; here was my response. meanjin.com.au/blog/the-unleaโ€ฆ

๐ŸงŠAntarctic Sea Ice โ€” look at that ๐Ÿ“‰crash. Number explainer: for those who need a crash course in statisticsโ€”anything lower than X Standard Deviations means there is Y likelihood it deviated from normal sea ice levels by chance: -3 SD = 0.27% chance -4 SD = 0.0063% chance -5 SD = 0.000057% chance -6 SD = 0.0000002% chance โžก๏ธAntarctic Sea Ice is now at -6.5 SD ==> 0.00000001% chanceโ€ฆ or โš ๏ธ1 in 10 BILLION chance this is a normal deviation. Not to be alarmist butโ€ฆthis is whatโ€™s called a six-sigma event, now unfolding in Antarctica. Otherwise known as a once-in-7.5-million-year event. Hang onto your hats. HT @EliotJacobson

The scientific consensus for #ClimateChange and that is is caused by human activities is 96-100%. People think it's just 60-70% of climate scientists, because bots and climate change deniers flood social media and newspapers with false data, lies and fossil fuel propaganda.
