The updated background will allow the player to focus more on the characters and movement instead of the individual background elements, which is a plus. Also if there are going to be particles there, they'll shine a lot more behind more of a flat palette bg. Great update without losing detail, and it looks ethereal and cool as well! Well done!

If you don't understand how to code at all, you could easily wrangle yourself into a pickle that's expensive to get out of (if you even ever do)...especially if you bite off more than you can chew with chaotic prompting. One look at the forums on mobile-friendly entry-level ai dev apps will tell you how important even a small coding background is. You need to know how to organize and explain. Funny thing, this also applies to visual artists and AI as well. The base skill is very much needed to break a certain ceiling of quality.

Thanks for the suggestion! I should give the characters and their levels their own themes for sure. I currently have Ryker 🐺, Amber 🐰, Sylth 🦎, Ezra 🦝, Flora 🦋, and Valoran 🕷️. Thanks again for your awesome comments. Your work with water is really cool too, and I love that you're logging the process updates on here.

Looks fantastic! 👏 The low-poly style fits perfectly, and the game seems like it has a lot of room for more features. The background music especially is really well done — it nails that retro chipcore vibe.If you're open to suggestions, one idea that came to mind: if you plan to add multiple characters later, consider giving each one their own unique music theme. For example, a more epic/orchestral version for the Paladin, and something lighter and adventurous for another character. It would really elevate the atmosphere.Super excited to follow the progress, keep it up! 📷

Echoes of the Veil Another update on the game! Thanks for bearing with me; I'm going wild this weekend on updates. Added the boss, a level map, the Paladin sword, checkpoints, extra life, HP hearts, a side quest (lol) and new enemies. I’ve been going back and forth on the title for a while - switching between Shadows of the Veil and Echoes of the Veil. Two nights ago I finally updated the full GDD to Echoes of the Veil because it feels less dark/gothy and more fitting for the tone I want. My brain is still adjusting though - I keep accidentally calling it Shadows haha. On the audio side, I’ve been experimenting with two excellent tools: - sfxr.me (and its web version jsfxr) - ridiculously fun for making retro-style sound effects. Perfect for quick .wav files. - Suno.com - I used it to generate both the Level 1 exploration music and the boss fight track. The results turned out surprisingly good! For game music on Suno, I usually go with “loopable + chipcore + instrumental” in the prompt and it nails the vibe I’m going for. Still a long way to go, but it’s starting to feel more alive.
