I read John Steakley’s Vampire$ expecting a dumb oorah action book—which it kind of is—but by the end you get these very earnest and insightful bits on hypermasculinity as a coping mechanism that aren’t really there in Carpenter’s adaptation. Definitely plan on checking out Armor

@2ray_degenemax If you can get your hands on one, the Hunter models of the 629 with the long barrels and compensators get very stable to shoot - less snappy than a snubnose .38, even.

@andrewtlloyd @fandompulse Yeah, had the same realization as you at Scarif - they're stationkeeping above the base well below geosynchronous altitude, therefore they must be hovering, not orbiting, presumably on repulsors. Endor and Coruscant presumably the same.

"The bad stuff in [The Last Jedi] is so bad. The fact that it is a slow paced chase through space in a world where people have FTL travel. Like, why are the enemy slowly chasing this convoy. Why? This isn't a plot hole.

I'm okay with the dropping bombs even though it's dumb and makes you be like, 'Wait. What?' But what bothers me is the pacing and the plotting makes no sense. The story makes no sense. Luke is the travesty. The salt planet's cool looking."

@andrewtlloyd @fandompulse And it's fine anyway if the bombs are accelerated and launched, not dropped. Always weird to me people getting hung up on that part and not the rest of the scene being terrible.

@fandompulse The bombs are okay, because it's clear that stuff in Star Wars doesn't need to orbit stuff. The second Death Star is just parked over Endor and the gateway at Scariff was likewise parked.

The B-58 is legitimately one of the best looking aircraft we have ever made, ranks right up there with F14.
Unfortunately since it can only drop nukes and was never used: It doesn't get screen time in anything at all.

@travis4nh I think there's two sources of friction here. It's not that people want it to discharge with the mortgage, its that it's hidden when you have a mortgage: the bank handles it and you just pay "the mortgage". The other is assessment increases. 1/2

Property taxes are just a tax.
Civilization has had taxes for as long as civilization has existed.
I hate taxes and want to reduce them to near zero
...but there is no way that taxes mean that your property is a "commons".
Car registration tax doesn't mean your car is public etc.

Again, I don’t wanna go all populist on you, but the idea that the private property you own is actually a commons that belongs to everybody and so you should have to pay taxes for the right to occupy it would be news to like 98% of all American homeowners. I’m just telling you that basically nobody thinks of their property that way, that, in fact, the American people have an alternative conception of private property.
