“I was not very good in high school. I did all kinds of other things. You could say I was a bit of a rebel. But if you're not a rebel, you aren't questioning anything. If you have a curious mind and a rebellious character, you can be a good researcher even if your grades are not so good. I am the living proof of that!”
At today's Nobel Prize Teacher Summit, chemistry laureate Morten Meldal spoke about the advantages of being a rebellious researcher.
Meldal was awarded the 2022 chemistry prize for the development of click chemistry.

Left: Me and my goats in Afghanistan.
Right: Me after my PhD from one of the UK's top universities.
Conclusion: Farage is an ignorant coward who thrives on hate mongering and racial stereotypes.

@orwellian @martinmbauer "compared to what"? how about just don't rig the system and generate waste? i have options, so i left. my job was to make others appear competent. i made someone a prof by getting her published in jama, best pracital joke i ever played. they haven't published since i left
English

@BasedScience @martinmbauer ok. Here's my experience: I find the people who are reflexively fixated on this have not processed their own insecurities.
DEI implementation is not perfect. But compared to WHAT? I think you'll find a common theme is a dedication to keep improving and that's quite worthwhile.

Analyzing your own thoughts might seem healthy, but a new review shows that deep introspection is actually associated with higher levels of depression and anxiety, rather than boosting life satisfaction or overall well-being. dlvr.it/TRb3RP

@orwellian @martinmbauer everyone in the room will know who they are and quietly resent them. and they know who they are too, but they don't seem to mind. it would be a wondeful thing to apply pressure and make them sort it out

@MrMiyag08320124 @NickDixon it's a complicated discussion. religion reduces everything to "evil!". we need to at least respect the discussion
English

@BasedScience @NickDixon There are no circumstances where an abortion does not end the life of a baby
Now it just has limbs and looks more like a baby than it used to
The psychological issues this will bring about if the procedure is ever carried out will be impossible to cure
It is approved murder
English

Literally allowed to kill your baby up to birth = Handmaid’s Tale
Dominant public display from religion that puts women in sacks = not Handmaid’s Tale

'The Handmaid's Tale was meant to be science-fiction, not a manifesto for a future government!' Although steps towards de-criminalising abortion have been taken, @stellacreasy warns people not to let their guard down, and keep fighting.

Dear Prime Minister, you are supposed to be the Prime Minister of #Australia, my Prime Minister and every other ordinary Australian, proud and head high. I would like to ask what is Australian about this picture?! Being in a mosque, sitting on the ground barefoot, while there is a big verse of the Quran over your head, and a Muslim cleric sitting 5 meters above you on a chair while you are seated on the ground, surrounded by a bunch of extremists. This is totally a disgrace to Australia and Australians. @AlboMP
