Exceptional and record breaking heat from North Africa to Norway. Unbearably hot around the central Mediterranean especially. Note the split in temperature in Europe with relatively cool air in the west. Intense thunderstorms can be found along the strong thermal boundary.

A roll cloud is a low, horizontal, tube-shaped, and relatively rare type of arcus cloud. This unusual view is believed to come from Cincinnati, Ohio and shows a huge formation of clouds rolling towards a row of neat houses [source: buff.ly/3O2Y0nu]

Just to address some concerns over this - the book will function on any horizontal surface - desk, breakfast bar, top of a boxed-in electricity meter in a downstairs toilet, the lot. I don't want to alienate the lucrative non-coffeetable community (and it IS a community).
