Funny enough, the research clearly demonstrates that when people are placed into well controlled feeding studies, they lose the same amount of fat when protein & calories are equated between diets, regardless of what diet they use PMIDs: 28193517 & 39732588 But none of them work without an energy deficit. Boring works, but it doesn’t sell very well

For a deeper breakdown of this study including strengths, limitations, and how it fits into the broader evidence, subscribe to REPS (link in bio) Each month, we analyze 5 new studies and break them down in a way that's easy for you to understand One study alone doesn’t tell you much. We do the work to show you how the full body of evidence fits together biolayne.com/workout-builde…

What does it mean for you? Adding cardio to resistance training led to greater fat loss without compromising strength gains. These findings align with the broader literature on concurrent training and weight loss. (PMID: 40218073 & 40405489) Resistance training is critical but for fat loss, cardio can help. Ideally seperate your lifting from cardio, but if you do them together, lift first

Do you need cardio for fat loss? It’s the time of year when many people set weight-loss goals, join gyms, and commit to exercise. I’m all for it. Anything that gets people moving has real benefits. While many resolutions won’t last into February, for those who do stay consistent, a well-designed training program matters.

@TyBealPhD @PeterAttiaMD pretty sure I discussed some of the limitations of it. Reality is all these studies have limitations. Which is why the strongest evidence is the mendelian randomization studies.

@PeterAttiaMD @BioLayne It's super important to read this explanation by Ramsden et al. (2010) of the significant flaws of the Finnish Mental Hospital Study.

In #380 of The Drive, I sit down with Layne Norton, PhD, (@biolayne) to debate seed oils. Layne lays out the case that seed oils are not uniquely harmful under isocaloric conditions, while I steelman the strongest versions of the opposing argument. bit.ly/3NhHeWm

@Azazello1313 @davi_kolar @PeterAttiaMD Even after accounting for infant and childhood mortality, life expectancy was far shorter. In fact even in the mid 1800s, if you made it to 10 years old, on average you still only lived to be 60. Compare that with 80 years old now...

@davi_kolar @PeterAttiaMD @BioLayne this is incorrect on multiple fronts. average life expectancy was low because of high rates of child mortality. those who survived to adulthood could expect to live much longer. even early hominids evolved much longer lifespan than other apes, because community drove survival.

The evolutionary argument against eating seed oils | Layne Norton, Ph.D. (@biolayne) This clip is from episode # 380 of The Drive which was released on 1/19/26. In the full episode, we cover: -The core arguments against seed oils: the four main claims underlying the idea that seed oils are uniquely harmful, and how well they hold up once major confounders are addressed -The historical trials that shaped the debate: the Minnesota Coronary Experiment, Sydney Diet Heart Study, Rose Corn Oil trial, and later studies replacing saturated fat with polyunsaturated fat -Mechanisms and causality: LDL cholesterol, oxidized LDL, linoleic acid (omega-6), inflammation, -Mendelian randomization, and why lifetime LDL exposure matters more than per-particle oxidation risk -Practical takeaways: industrial processing concerns, cooking oils, real-world dietary fat choices, and how to prioritize nutrition relative to calories, activity, and overall lifestyle factors Listen (Ep. # 380) to the full episode on my website (peterattiamd.com/laynenorton4/) or your favorite podcast player.

Yea so that's just called 'high calories' when it's high carb and high fat. Confounding variables have entered the chat I already addressed the oxidation component in depth on the podcast that you very obviously did not listen to

Ironically the person who shall not be named (but is the most vocal and popular anti-seed oil proponent out there) withdrew after I shared my references He refused to share his references despite multiple requests. He requested to be on a far smaller podcast that was very obviously biased I lost what little respect I had for him

@exfatloss @PeterAttiaMD @BioLayne @TuckerGoodrich There was an anti- seed oil evangelist scheduled to debate, but he bailed last minute. Also, Tucker is an honest proponent? Seriously?
